OS X should be growing by leaps and bounds with all the money Apple dumps in marketing attacking MS. While Linux, the best OS of them all IMNSHO, has been growing remarkably without spending a dime on marketing!....;)

I guess that's one excuse that you can use when trying to explain the lack of progress that Linux has had over the past decade-plus that it's been available as a desktop OS. OS X has been a decent OS only since 10.3 which is about five years ago and look at where it is now.

But, frankly, even the top Linux guys have been saying that desktop Linux needs to be more like OS X. I don't recall but I think they were saying something about lifting the look and feel.

Interestingly enough, the iPhone OS will probably be used by more people than Linux in a year or so.

It's all MARKETING muscle for OS X and OS X & MS have been copying stuff from Linux! They both know where the 'good stuff' is!...;)

Linux has over 100 different distros and is still growing. That doesn't sound much like a lack of progess. Diversity and creativity is a great Linux strength.

No one ever said that Linux as an OS was not progressing; just that the marketplace has basically rejected it.

Without knowing their measurement methodology (I can't find it), it's difficult to know the measurement bias. But it's hard to believe that linux really went from 0.91% in September, to 0.71% in October, then to 0.83% in November.

I have no confidence whatsoever in their measurements.
