I know of course, that us Mac users are in the minority here. So, for those who care, I just upgraded to OS X Tiger (10.4). The upgrade process (from 10.3.x) was painless as one would expect from an Apple product. Tiger comes on one DVD and everything you need is there. The install does take a while - about 40 min in my case. But it's fully automated so once it starts you just walk away and come back later.

So far I have to say I'm impressed with the new version of Safari - it's noticably faster. Mail has a nice new interface although they moved the Junk button so I have to get used to that. And Dashboard with all the widgets is very cool - I'm going to love that feature and I can see that the shareware / freeware crowd is going to go nuts developing all kinds of stuff. Haven't used Spotlight really but it does seem to be awful fast from my cursory examination.

Good job Apple!

Searches are fine so far - performance is quite snappy. I don't notice any slowdown vs Panther. All apps that I've tried open fine so far. No problems with Mail either.

The only oddity is that I might need to update my printer driver (I use an all in one HP) but that printer / driver was always a little flakey anyway. And they force you to buy another registration for QuickTime 7 if you want the pro version. (I had QuickTime 6 pro.)

There will undoubtedly be updates to 10.4.x in the next little while but I can't say I've found any showstoppers yet. Keep in mind though that I've been using Tiger for a whole 3 hours or so.
