Former Capt Clown vs the Ottawa Senators(Melnyk and Murray)

Pick your side, sit back, grab your favorite beverage and snack ... now let the mud slinging begin !

Clown wanted $7 Mil for one, $6 Mil per over two seasons to return to Ottawa.
Melnyk / Murray offered $4.5.

Now the two sides are flinging mud. They are fully into the divorce now.

Senator fans would have you believe that every team wanted their former Capt, ....every team except the team that had him.

In any event here are some links ....

This may be the best one where Melnyk predicts the Red Wings will finish behind the Sens.

Melnyk; "Ottawa Senators‘ owner Eugene Melnyk came out swinging in a recent interview with the Ottawa Citizen, telling the paper that among other things: Daniel Alfredsson chose the wrong team, and that his squad will finish ahead of the Red Wings in the newly formed Atlantic Division."

looks like the Senaturds couldnt afford Krusty

maybe the cheap skate owner will move the team to Portland or Seattle

Bobby Ryan will look good in the Blue and White in a couple of years since the Senaturds wont have the cash to resign him !

Timing, off the ice, is not Sideshow Bob's strong point. He chose to give the Sens a break on previous contracts, he was wrong to expect that they would do an about face with him on the cusp of retirement. And he's not going to win anything with Detroit. They are transitioning, last year's playoff run was a fluke. By the time they become a contender again he'll be long gone.

I don't know where you guys are coming from, but Detroit is a consistent contender with excellent management ....Ottawa has always had a decent team, but could never finish when it counted....the Leafs are a sad and pathetic example of money not buying success and horrible management.

Alfredson is a Hall of famer with guts , skill and class.

What makes you think Ryan would want to come to Toronto?

LOL. Sure, whatever.
I will agree on one point 'Clown in HHOF', yes probably.

Careful you do not drink the media kool-aid too quickly. The Leafs are now building/heading in the right direction.
Players will want to come here when the organization shows it is finally on the right track.

Why would he wants want to stay in Ottawa?

It's a glorified bedroom community that produces more greenhouse gases than the rest of Canada combined. They could'nt keep Chara how are they going to keep Ryan? And a franchise being propped up by Toronto money. local ownership took the franchise for everything they could get then cried poor.

I stand corrected, he'll stay in Ottawa just for the pleasure of having Mike Duffy cheer for him - if he gets free tickets of course.

Toronto and Ottawa, side by side. lol

Leaf fans don't get ahead of yourself. Ever wonder why the buds can't land the big name free agents? or why they can't get the big name in a trade? Guys like Nash and the like won't sign with Toronto or they've got the leafs on their no trade list. Kessel was the last "good" player they got by trade and that helped the Bruins win a cup, other than that the last few years they just got mediocre talent like Bolland and Clarkson. In my opinion the buds played over their heads last year and won't make the playoffs this year.

As a Sens fan this is the way I read this whole debacle.

Melnyk through Murray tried to hardball Alfie and his agent found a much better offer with the Wings.

Alfie didn't want to go but felt disrespected because he was playing at below market value with the understanding that he would be compensated for his loyalty to the team.

The real losers here are the Ottawa fans as they generally love Alfie for both his exceptional play and leadership as well as his superb efforts in the community.

Melnyk is coming off very badly as of late.

With both his fight against city hall regarding his proposed casino in Kanata and his supposed investigation into the ''Cooke/ Karlsson'' incident.

All in all a big distraction the the Sens do not need.

Oh and the only clown around here is Ironhead/ Cement head.

Very well stated, sir.

Only thing I would add is the under reported news of Melnyk's alleged cash crunch, and the effects it may be having on the hockey club's operations.

So let me ask you this.

Do you really believe Melnyk and his constantly complaining about the viability of the Sens?

Because I for am not buying it for one minute.

I believe the Senators are viable, break-even to small profitable. It's his investments in other ventures that are causing Gene's shortages (allegedly).

This was maybe the first time we saw the impact of the silly cap avoiding back ended contract biting a player in the ass at the end.

I guess the same could be argued for Mikka Kiprusoff, who retired instead of playing for a small amount this year... and I think he could have still played.

And I think, the Sens made certain representations to Alfie, if he decided to come back for his last year of the deal in 2012/2013. Its not as simple as arguing that it is Alfie's fault for the 4 year contract. He could have retired instead of playing for $1 million, but I tend to believe him when he said that the Sens would make it right in 2013/2014. And the Sens making it right was probably a major point in their proposal to bring him back last year - and now they reneg on it. Its not about the extra million that the Red Wings gave... and evens the Sens may have ultimately given. Its the lack of respect behind the offer and Melnyk not honouring an informal commitment that the Sens used to convince him to come back.

If the prior contract had been a flat 3 year deal, Alfie would have no issue accepting $4.5 million this year. Its about the Sens saying they would make it right, and not doing so.

Well Georgie did not reply so I looked up 'internet troll'. I can see how he would make that mistake.
I posted some news he did not like.

I would like the NHL to take a close look at the dealings by Ottawa. I think there may have been some Cap issues.

The Sens may be better off without the former Capt.

They are indeed a better team without him.

I'm no sens fan by any stretch, believe you me. Bobby Ryan is 100 years younger and will be a much more productive player than Alfredsson could dream to be in the twilight on his career.

That being said...captain Alfie took a "hometown" discount for years. So the sens could be more productive/active improving their roster. He deserved a one time fat contract after the years of taking less than market value.

Murray fucked up, melnyk fucked up...and Alfie finally got payed (even if he's now not worth the obscene contract)

Melnyk / Murray offered $4.5
So Iron calls Daniel Alfredsson 'Captain Clown'.

Do you have pet names for Leafs captains too?

I can start you out with

Dave 'Captain Sullen' Keon

Rick 'Captain Drunk' Vaive.

Rob 'Killer Captain' Ramage.

Doug 'Captain Babysitter' Gilmour.

Those nicknames suit a lot more than 'Clown' does for Alfredsson.

There were no cap issues in relation to Alfredsson's most recent contract with Ottawa. Both sides fulfilled their end of the deal.

Not that I care but, how am I a 'troll' ?
From Wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

For starters, you agree that you are a troll.

Secondly, you're a troll because you're introducing an inflammatory subject for discussion unnecessarily.
Where are your threads on all the other UFA's from this summer?

You just like to pick at what you perceive to be a scab.
Perhaps because of your misguided jealousy and envy with regard to the Senators captain and everything he has done for his team and community these past 18 or so years?

My apologies for the delay in reply to this question, it seemed self evident to me, but I'm glad to help you with your queries, young Ironhead.
