Extrabladet will discontinue its practice of having a recurring nude centrefold page, replacing it with a women's advice column
After 32 years of running its 'Page 9 Girls', national tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet has announced it will cease featuring nude women on the page, reported Nyhedsavisen newspaper.
Starting Wednesday, the paper's page 9 will instead be dedicated to women's issues featuring advice, comments and letters.
Ekstra Bladet has not completely abandoned its presentation of scantily clad females, however. Featured centrefolds will still occasionally grace other pages of the paper, but many will be shown in less risqué poses, according to the newspaper's editor-in-chief, Poul Madsen.
'We've had to acknowledge that our Page 9 Girl insert isn't what it was 20 years ago,' said Madsen. 'But we'll still have featured centrefolds, although sometimes they'll pose with more clothes on. The neighbour's daughter has become more chaste.'
Although the new page 9 will be dedicated to women's issues, there are as yet no women on Ekstra Bladet's management staff.
