figure skating as a whole just doesn't have the same appeal as it once did back in the late 80's/90's. There are just no skating stars no matter how well they are doing...think it applies to both Canada & the States. The last skaters that are "heros" are probably Kurt Browning & maybe Elvis Stojko. Even back at the Olympics in 2010 when Moir and Virtue won, they were "heros" but only for that short span. They haven't been around enough to develop a true following (though I think Virtue is pretty cute!). Race isn't that big of a factor anymore nowadays...take Jeremy Lin for example.
