Why does a PC clock lose time?

I have heard it's a sign the cmos/compter battery is getting weak...but thats unconfirmed.

Your PC is probably time sync with the VIA Rail time server.

(If your running Window 2000 or lower most PCs will lose time until they sync with a Internet time server.)

i have a different problem with the clock, i lose exactly 3 hours when i start working on the pc in the morning. i have a scheduled spyware and all my updates done after midnight. any of this cause this problem or is there something else going on?
your help would be appreciated
