Does anybody understand the rules? I am totally confused ever since Shoppers entered the picture.

When Shoppers came out with their points card I racked up $250-300 in points in the first year without looking or trying. Things slowed down in the later years. When Presidents Choice merged the cards things went down hill. I noticed that there were very few points when I shopped at Loblaws and affiliated stores, you have to look for the items that give points or you get nothing. At Shoppers you still get a few points for every item and bonus points for special items of the week. I do not even bother these days.

The Canadian Tire Card is your best bet. CDN Tire money on everything you buy, multiple points if you use your card to shop at CDN Tire stores. Plus five cents back per litre of gas. If you use you points to buy Items on special in the weekly flyer ( up to 80% on some items ) You points even go further.

I use the BMO Cash Back credit card . I get points for everything . If you don't use the points then those money points are added to your card in January. In other words free money . Last year I racked up over $400 on that card alone . When buying gas at Canadian Tire I use my Canadian Tire card to get the 5 cents off a liter . The problem with Canadian Tire card is that you have to shop at Canadian Tire . The BMO Cash Back card is money back no matter where you use it .

I also have a Husky Rewards card for Husky and Esso gas stations and use my BMO card . Free points from Husky and BMO . By my lotto tickets at Husky gas stations and swipe their Husky card . You'd be surprised of how fast the points add up . Very easy to cash in those points and get free tickets .

Still use my PC points card but I try to buy what they offer in points .

To bad you can't get gift cards from Canadian Tire points . That was great . It was like getting free gas .

Everything adds up . You just have to be smart about it and get the right cards .

Points is good. LMFAO

Over the years I've gotten 3 (soon to be 4) iPads on my RBC Mastercard.
Boxing day I got a 55 inch Sharp tv (came with Amazon echo - got 2 for some reason), tablet/latptop, bluetooth earbuds, Amazon tablet, Sony xbs bluetooth speaker, (some other shit i'm forgetting) ...ALL ON MY OPTIMUM POINTS!!!
Since then, the SO follows points like a hawk...knows all the good/bad...has confirmed that Optimum is not as good as before...but is still very good..

Until this week I actually thought I was still getting 3% regardless of what I buy at Loblaws and affiliates.

When I called the call center, the agent said I get an email offer (yes, I do). Then I have to explicitly accept the offer by signing in with my password (who the hell remembers their password?) and I only get points on the items offered (e.g. 50 cans of Campbell soup). What a f--kup. Keep it simple and just give me the 3% on whatever I buy. Ridiculous! Stupid!

Plus, I am not currently using my PC Mastercard because I have a prepaid VISA that I have to use before the expiry date.

These guys are idiots and make things to confusing for the average person that just wants to swlpe a card and go. I go into Esso now, and they ask me if I want to swipe my Esso Card or Optimum. It's like, "well if swipe your Esso card you get XYZ, if you swlpe your Optimum card you get ABC". Holy fuck man, I don't to go home and have dissect which card I should be using where and when. Just fucking combine the shit already.

This is where the program is fucked up - they should automatically give you the points every week whether or not you log in - I never knew this for almost two years and missed out on lots of points. I am going to buy what I need and not because there are points offered on it. I buy a lot of groceries every month so I rack up a lot of points, especially when they have the 10000 bonus points for spending 100 dollars.

It is screwed up that they combined Shoppers with Loblaw branded stores, yet you get points as always at SDM but not Loblaws. I do like that they made it so you do not need to accept every item on the mobile app, it just loads them now and you get the points automatically. I was happy when they combined but pissed off when I would buy a lot at the grocery store only to find very few points. Why bother?

For me the best benefit is I can rack up points at SDM and cash them in at the grocery store. They did simplify the points accrual in that it is linear now .... every 10,000 points is $10. It is what it is .....

Merely by combining the Shoppers card with the Loblaws + affiliate stores they made people believe that you got just as many points by shopping at any of these stores. Also Shoppers are not giving as many ordinary point or bonus points as they did when they first started their points program.

You might get points at SDM but everything there is overpriced.

Metro and Sobeys give you Air Miles for everything you buy. None of this load the offer shit (I still can't remember my password).

Air Miles is also criminal. Took me 20 years of collecting to get a blender.

I racked up $650 in CDN Tire cash last year for just using my CDN Tire card. I got a $600 CDN Tire bike for half price @ $300 of CDN Tire money. This is the best card to have, especially when you buy the items that are on special at 50-80% off.

That's all well and good but I only buy one bike tube and a can of WD40 once a year. How many points will I get?

So, I called 1-866-727-6468 again to-day. The agent confirmed I only get points for the stuff they offer me and only if I explicitly accept. I told her it is unfair to not give me points for the stuff not on the offer sheet.

I have the mobile app on my phone for PC Optimum. They send an email every Thursday, open the app, offers load automatically for both Shoppers and Loblaw Group. If you scan every time at Loblaws (I shop at No Frills) even if there is no points available, scan anyway. They see what you buy and over a month or 6 weeks, the offers get a lot more tailored to what you buy, and the points pile up. My wife has one card on her Phone, I have another different card, and by comparing offers, and smart shopping, we have amassed over 120,000 points since November last year - good for $120 at No Frills or Shoppers.

Key thing is scan every time so they come to you with offers for what you would probably normally buy anyway. Also on Wednesday look at what offers you didn't use, and swipe left on up to 4 of them and save them for the next week, they will add on on top of your normal weeks list.
