yeah I like it, Peca can still play very good defense and is one of the top5centers for taking draws in the league...

leafs and peca

first off mr peca welcome to the hockey mecca, hes a good def forward and came at only 2.5 million. The leafs last year prolly had the laziest worst set of def minded forwards i had ever seen...it was bad....bad news is with the offensive fire power we have at this moment i dont think we will ever have a lead to protect.

If they could pay less for McCabe and get rid of Darcy Tucker, I'd say the Leafs have a good team this year.

I don't dislike Peca coming to T.O., I think with Peca & Tucker on the same line, we'll have one of the top defensive forward lines in the league. I guess JFJ is going defence this year, because we have NO guarenteed offensive players that can put the puck in the net with the exception of Sundin.

Interesting dynamic with Peca and Tucker on the same line, after what happened in April '02, and the bad blood that followed.
Now the gamble is did they just sign the 05-06 regular season Peca, or the playoff Peca?

2.5 is a bit too much for a guy who doesnt score much, they paid at least half a mil too much IMO
Peca isn't about scoring he is about faceoffs and defense...

yeah but with the Sabres and Isles he put up decent numbers offensively, he flat out stunk in Edmonton during the regular season...he was a steady 40+ point guy and he only had 23 pts last year...you can find cheaper defensive guys

what does it matter, this team is still no better than 9th

I think we're going to have a very good balance on defense and with Raycroft giving us a full season in net we should be in the playoffs...

The Leafs are better in goal, on defence and at center than they were last year. Playoff bound for sure. One question: How will the Senators choke this season?

I really like Preissing(sp?)...The new defenseman they got...He had forty some points last season, and he is very good on defense as well...On top of all of that he is only making 900 THOUSAND this year...

Steal of the year...

However they did lose Havlat...

Aubin could still be the starter for all we know with JFJ... At least Raycroft signed an extension and as far as I know its very reasonably priced :D

Raycroft was shit last year too

The only thing Raycroft has going for him is upside
No doubt. I mean he lost his spot to Tim Thomas and Hannu Toivonen for chrissakes. Raycroft even played overseas during the lockout. So he couldn't complain he was rusty. Hopefully for Leafs fans he was just playing through naggling injuries or something and can rebound (but not out to the blue line:p ).

Raycroft better fucken get us into the playoffs, we ONLY traded a prospective SUPERSTAR goalie for him! Why the Leafs make IDIOT moves is beyond me! All I have to say is: ANDREW RAYCROFT.... PLEASE, PLEASE, MAKE ME EAT MY WORDS AND PROVE ME WRONG!!!

Is it too much to ask this organization to keep their first round picks ... its either we trade them or pick them and then trade them !!! This guy was a had the worse save performance then any goalie in the league last year ... We not only give them a first round pick ... We gave him a raise !!
The Leafs have consistenly sucked with prosepects since the '80's. Remember the year the Leafs scout's car broke down in Belleville forcing them to pick nothing but Bulls.

I said it on some thread that I don't understand why the Leafs don't covet their prospects more. I still haven't a clue:rolleyes:

The Leafs should forget about having their own scouts. On draft day they should just immediately trade their draft picks for other teams' players. At least then, MLSE can make more money since they wouldn't have to pay scout salaries.
