Coach is usually the first one thrown under the bus...you can't throw out the team.

On the surface it appears to have turned around Ottawa (most likely to late) as their new coach is 4-1-1 but if you look at Ottawa the real turnaround has been putting Elliot in goal...he's 8-3-2 (2 SO losses) since being given the starting nod.

The PENS goaltending and defense has been horrible but sometimes a new coach can get a little more willingness to be responsible defesively and you can get some additional effort...after all, the players don't want to look like tHEY were to blame.

When the Flyers went on their 10 game skid last year Holmgrin held steady with Stevens and it paid off. Only time will tell if this was the right move or not for the PENS.

So I guesss the next questions is how long does Carboneau have in Montreal?

MT is a good coach.

it's shocking to see that it was him that got fired and not Shero.

on the other hand, Dan Bylsma is an up and coming pro coach... it will be interesting to see how he does with the big club.

There have been quite a few changes in Pitsburgh and they truly miss the toughness they had from last year. Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts were a big part of it.

They did not have Hossa which was pointed out earlier but a big part of their scoring was missing this entire year and that's Sergei Gonchar.

Another key part was Ryan Whitney who has been injured most of the year.

all of that .....plus they haven't had a good goalie all year.

I'm pretty sure they are not going to make it to the playoffs this year. Days are weeks right now and they are moving in the wrong direction.

that's true, mac. MA Fleury has been injured most of the year, too. And Sabu (Sabourin) hasn't filled in the way Conklin did last season... therefore, leading Fleury to play more games while questionable that he would have done had secondary 'tending had been up to snuff.

btw- Therrien may have got fired for Benching Malkin on Saturday Night. heard this story from a few different people around.

Malkin left the dressing room while Therrien was in the coache's office saying to Petr Sykora- "Tell that piece of shit if he ever benches me again I'll be on the next flight to Russia."

This message apparently got to Shero before it got to Therrien and I guess 25 hrs. later, Therrien can add his name to the long list of unemployed Americans...

Now, I don't necessarily agree that benching Malkin deserves a firing... I don't know the bigger picture. But, if this is true- good for Geno for sticking up for himself...

on second thought- i do know something happened, but i highly doubt this is what was said. Malkin doesn't speak like that. yes, he is an affirmative confident personality, but he wouldn't use derogatory phrases like POS...
