Well, the melting point of copper apparently is 1083.0 °C. Aside from the slight difficulty in getting your pennies that hot (unless you have easy access to industrial equipment that is), I'm not acually sure where one could go sell a few kilos of melted pennies. I mean, obviously there's a strong market for copper but where exactly does one go to sell a hunk of copper?

I think that if you look at the new legislation you will see that defacing money to get the 1.73 cents per penny will get you busted.

Oh well they can't afford to make it or print it or even shall we say earn it???
