That is a program from the 80s to early 90s. They find idiots with minor beefs and fly them to Los Angeles to film the mock court. The participants were paid $1500 and put up at a nice hotel for their stay. Often people that would know each other would make up a story so that they can get a free vacation. There were other TV shows that would attract all kinds of weirdos, like the Sally Jesse Raphaelle show and the Maury Povich Show. People would make up all kinds of BS to get on the show and go to LA for a free vacation.
