Check the exterior very carefully. Ensure there are no scratches, that rail dust(orange spots) have been removed. Next check the tire pressure, ensure the gas tank is full(you pay for a full tank), check the alarm on the car(if it has one).

Go down on ground and look under car to make sure some part isn't dangling and broken and almost dragging on the ground because once you drive off the lot "your the one who broke it" because you ran over something.

Ask them if the car has ever been involved in a car accident.

This may seem like a stupid question since it's new but a cousin of mine bought a brand new car from a dealership a few years ago and before it was sold to him the lot boy banged the side of the car into a pole and they had to repaint the driver door and put body filler on it.
They did all that and never told my cousin about the accident. Anyway after about 6 months all the moisture inside the paint started to drain away in the repainted door and colour became all flat and when my cousin took it back to find out what was going on that's when they told him the car had been involved in an accident before it was sold. They then told him that they were not "obligated" to tell him about the accident since the damage to the car was less than $500.00.
He was not impressed with the GM dealership and the next car he bought was a Honda.

i wouldn't take that shit from no one. i would fucking ask for a fee in return or take it up with GM. i can kind of understand if the car was second hand...you never really know what happened to the car. but if im paying for a brand new car...i expect it to be brand new. did they atleast repaint the door for him? like what did they do for him when he brought it back?

Yea, they repainted the door for him for free. Original painter screwed up when he did his paint prep work and paint mixing after the door was banged up on the lot.
The point is you have to ask pointed questions because if something is not right they may try to conceal it from you.

Make sure you know where your 20% purchase price value goes when the tires hit the road

One snowy Nov 30 I took delivery of Pontiac 6000. I had scoured all of the dealers for 9 days and I had the specs on every 6000 on their lots except for the one that I eventually bought. When I went in to finally do the paperwork for a different car there was the missing car but with wire wheel covers and pinstripes which were not on the spec sheet. I didnt want the covers but the dealer was goingto charge me $150 to take them off so I took them anyway.

The following April I had just hand washed the car for the 1st time and I was sitting on the front step admiring my work when I noticed that the sun hit the driver's and passenger doors funny. Upon closer inspection I saw that both doors had been spray painted with a circle that was about 6" across but it was a shitty match job. I went directly to the dealer's body shop, bypassing the sales assholes, and I said to the bodyshop manager that the "PDI touch ups were defective". He pulled his records and said "no problem, this time we will paint the whole doors".

I never went back to that dealer again.

A few years later I bought an import, again at the end of the month when dealers are trying to make their quotas. On Tuesday the sales manager called me to tell me that my colour was unavailable for at least 2 months and would I take one off the lot. I told him no I could wait but to call when there was a car cuz I had a certifeid cheque all ready. I never heard from him. About 9AM on Friday, which was the 1st of the month, I was called by my salesman. He asked me why I had not come in on the 30th to pick up my new car which had magically appeared in the two days since the manager called me. I told him "because nobody called me that it was in". He asked me if I could get there by 11AM and I agreed. When I got there he said let's do the paperwork first and then we would do the inspection. I asked him why the hurry. He said that if the paperwork was done before noon then it counted as a sale in the previous month, he would exceed his target and he would get a bonus.

So after the lying manager could not get me to take a car in the wrong colour he tried to stiff his own salesman out of a sales bonus. That dealership never saw me again for any maintenance work.

They are all crooks!!!

There is not one honest car dealer or sales person in the entire western hemisphere.

The license plate holder is ok as you can easily change it. The sticker is another matter.
