Places with cheap / free wireless in Toronto

I'm talking coffee shops, places you can go out of the office and get some work done. I'd prefer free wireless obviously but if I had to pay for it, I'd want to pay for something that was useful in many different locations (like, in every Starbucks or in every 2nd Cup, I'm not interested in paying for Bell hotspot one day and then finding out the coffee shop I'm in only has Rogers or Telus the next).

I will start it off...

For those who take the Go train, the tims on York street next to Union Station has excellent free wireless.

I was in a Starbucks the other day and wanted to try my iTouch but couldn't surf the web for free. Is Starbucks not free anymore?

starbucks hasn't been free in years. alice fazoolis is free, many small cafe's are as well. there's a little place on baldin in kensington, just look at the independent cafe's for signs, lots of places offering free. also, just turn your pc on and look. anywhere there are small business i can usually find a free ap

Whatever happened to the Toronto Hydro Wireless business? I remember the announcement and got mail and calls from Toronto hydro saying the wireless was free in the downtown area for awhile then it would convert to pay.
I haven't heard anything about this for awhile. Did they give up on it?

The toronto hydro wireless is crap. It "blankets" downtown well enough... outdoors... the moment you go inside and sit at a table the connection sucks.

However if you want to sit on the curb with your laptop it's great. Well, even then not great.

I had high hopes for it too, but it looks like they rolled the wrong technology. They should have waited for WiMax.
