At first glance, it seem crazy that the government could compel porn stars in the States to use condoms by law, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense as workplace safety.

Of course, it would kill the industry because as we all know, no man wants to watch porn with the guy wearing a condom. It's a fact, as ugly as its consequences are.

Any thoughts?

Kathleen, although that would seem like a great idea, HIV can take up to 8 months to show in a blood test, so you can have it, and still test negative. So while i do agree wearing protection is up to the individuals, i question why they wouldnt want to use prophylactics.

Hmmmm....

So this is an issue of workplace safety...let's think about this.

A NASCAR driver goes careening around a track at 200mph in a tight formation. Every so often a car smacks into the wall and the driver dies. But, some of them survive and make a lot of money - it's their job! It's their choice!

You don't have to be a porn star, but; if you should choose to do this type of work- then you have to cater to the whims of the people buying the product.

Certainly you can make a rule regarding the use of condoms. But, at the same time...
a. it may cause sales to suffer
b. some performers may choose not to do it
c. it will be difficult to enforce and to penalize

Fact of the matter is STDs have been around for ages, did someone, somewhere finally have this first time revelation - don't think so. They can jaw about it - but nothing will change.

a) It WILL cause sales to suffer. Condom only has been tried once already and sales declined.

b) Especially true in the Internet scene.

c) See b). All condom-only will do is drive it underground, thus making it harder to monitor.

oh and for my 2¢...there are way too many people inhabiting the earth, if some die, oh well. we're slowly killing ourselves anyway, what's the difference in what matter it's done in.

The "HIV can take 8 months to show in a blood test" thing is old; the best current tests can usually detect in a couple of weeks. Still not good enough to make me interested in being a bare-backed porn star (as if anyone would want me), but that's why there haven't been massive outbreaks previously.
