I'm looking for a new black and white printer that does not smudge.

My old Epson Stylus CX3200 color ink jet printer was very bad for smudging.

The printer would also not let me print, with a get new ink cartridge message, even if the output was not faded.

Also, if I did not use the printer for a while, the heads would get clogged, and I would have to do a cleaning operation that would use most of the ink.

It is not worth it to keep feeding this printer cartridges because the cartridges cost almost as much as the printer.

Thanks in advance for the recommnedations.

Black and white laser printer is the way to go. Make sure it works with Vista.
I just bought an OKI from Tiger direct.

As has been said before... HP Laser Printers are a good option for B/W. Just check driver compatibility before purchase.

I also vote to go with a B/W HP laser printer.

way out in left field
My number one concern when buying a printer (any printer for that matter) is: how much will the toner/cartridges cost?

If the replacement ink is too expensive, (often costing more than the printer) then I pass. For example: Lexmark printers are always on sale and for great prices but go and buy ink for them and you;ll find it is cheaper to buy another printer.

If you're just printing business type stuff I've had good luck with HP. A customer gave me an all in one (but the fax doesn't work with voip) and I can't get the scanning software to work because it is so old. But it prints great lol.....

HP Phone Support Sucks

Maybe is you search a little harder than me or call the main HP number in Mississauga.
FWIW this goes back a couple years ago.
While I always preferred HP printers the few times I phoned HP support it sucked and their website was a maze to go through.
Their English was hard to understand, they didn't have the parts needed and tried to sell me 'specials' which were refurbs where I got a better deal locally for a brand new printer with a full warranty.

I bought a brother laser a couple of years ago and have been surprised at how good a job it does for the price I paid And it is networked.
