Checked the search function and could not find anything helpful. I am thinking about replacing my Epson 777.The thing drinks ink.I am looking for a photo printer around $100.
Any recommendations?

No matter what you go with, the price of the printer is minor compared to the price of the consumables. Research that side of things a lot.

My Experience with those ink jet printers is that they are basically crap. Depending how much quality you need for your color pics you might consider a color laser printer. They are getting cheaper every day. TCO(Total Cost of Ownership) is lower in the long run for these babies due to ink use and more durable.

Cheapest at Bestbuy is about $300 which is more then what you want to spend

This Canon Photo printer (not laser) is about $54 will do the job but will screw up early in it's life and will cost you a bundle in ink:

Thanks I have been thinking about a laser printer, the HP llaserjet cp1215 is $239.99 at future shop.
If I buy an ink jet what brand(model) is easiest on ink? and still give a decent picture and isn't in constant need of repair? The 777 has been very reliable (8 yrs never repaired) but you have to have back up cartridges on hand and it prefers the epson brand or the print quality goes down

You have a 777 that still works?!!! Mine lasted a whole year. I'm glad it broke because the cartridges were $$$$. They had the stupid chip system built into the cartridges that only counted pages, not how much ink was left. It was possible to get an "empty cartridge" warnings for ones that were still more than 1/2 full simply because it was based only on page count.

Anyhow:
Samsung color laser 2400X600 dpi with decent reviews for only $130

I picked up a bottom of the line Lexmark inkjet for my daughter who's off to Univ in September. 99 bucks, color sucks but it's a text printing workhorse which is what she'll need. They sell the ink right on campus for about 10 bucks.

Often you have to pick the printer for your need and not stay within a brand.

I have a HP L7580 All in One in my office and it's a workhorse, real easy on ink. For photo's i have an Epson R1800, heavy on ink but stunning prints.

Get organized and use an on-line photo developer. They are wayyyyy cheaper than printing your own and you will get better results.

Focus on a printer that can crank out the B&W text til the cows come home.

And never buy Lexmark unless you have a boat in need of new anchor. They are a POS. Ditto Dells which are Lexmarks

I think Lexmark makes great machines. I've had a few and all have preformed extremely well. If you think believe any of these printer manufacturers are honest your kidding yourself. The business model is based on selling ink/toner. Kodak charges a premium for the printer and charges less for ink. In the end I believe your out the same money. Better to select something that meets your needs.

Thanks for all the help.Bought a HP laserjet P1005.Futureshop advertised them 39.99,store I went to was out of stock so got it at Staples, price match etc.
Good little machine. Does everything I need so far.
Toner runs about $66.but lasts a lot longer than ink and doesn't dry out.It will be interesting to see how long the original toner lasts.Would be surprised if it is a full cartridge.
