Problem with Rogers HDTV

I have Rogers Digital Cable, with the High Definition Box. I am using the component video out (into a Sony HD rear projection lcd) and digital coaxial out for the sound (into a Yamaha surround sound receiver). All of my cables are medium to high end.

Here is what is annoying – at different times, on different channels, the HD feed will cut out for a split second – sometimes picture and sound, sometimes just sound.

I have called Rogers about this and they claim that sometimes they have problems with the originating HD feed and they assure me nothing is wrong with my HD box or cables.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggested solutions or is it just the quality of the originating HD feed?

Thanks for your help,

Blade

I've had the same problem and others with rogers....

their idea of customer service seems to follow a pattern:

step 1: deny there is a problem: "no we seem to be getting a good signal from all of your boxes" meanwhile most of them were at -11to-15 db on signal strength

step 2: claim the problem is in the inside wiring and we must have splitters that we installed, yet rogers did all of the inside work when they upgraded the area about 10 years ago

step 3: send some technician out to look at the problem at some point in the future, you have a choice of 3 appointments, 9am -12pm, 12pm-3pm, or 9am - 3pm or you can wait until next week sometime. Technician arrives late, and replaces the cable between the box and the tv, problem is still there, but he said it's fixed.

step 4: admit that the problem is at their end... and will be fixed sometime in the future... in the mean time you can suck it up and keep paying for our lousy service since we have a cable monopoly in toronto.

I'm guessing Rogers and Bell are reading from the same playbook then as I've been getting the same answers regarding static on my phone line for the last few months.

"It must be inside wiring"...yet it always seems to happen when its windy.

could be the box, could be the cables, could be the feed.
usually it is the signal, seeing as HD does feed more lines of resolution, it's not an excuse, but just comes with the technology, it's inherent.
try a new box, if it persists, really give it to rogers...it could be any number of things.

I get HDTV over the air (for free) and it usually kicks Rogers ass for signal quality. I do not get how a high bandwidth signal like that over the air beats a dedicated line.

Cutecob is correct...

Could be the box...could be the line.

I had Rogers HD feed a few years ago..the sound lagged behind the picture.

That was a line feed problem.

After seeing the number of channels at that time on HD...opted out. I know have Express VU and it's grea no probs at all on a HD PVR
