or try compressed air to blow out the dust - works for my xbox (which is way better than the ps2)

Went to EB today and they would only give me a refurbished for $100 with the trade in. The said the promo was over but they cut me some slack.

ur better bring it to a chinese place like chinatown or scarborough...........they won't rip u off cause they like having customers. the so-called "pros" at electronic boutique or whatever "high-end" video game stores will prob. try to screw u over

this is a common problem with PS2s.....i had it too. There is an answer to this if you have passable techie skills.

This is how i fixed mine (looked it up on a PS2 board...much like this SP board :) )

1) Open up your PS2....all screws out...top - off

2) Eject the tray....becareful not to look at the laser as you do this!

3) Unplug it - Now you should have a clear view of the inner workings of your PS2 "laser bay"

4) Notice a white plastic cog with a little metal tab that rests against it. This thing is the culprit!!...take a felt tip marker and mark ithe position its at

5) now turn this cog......notice how it adjusts the angle of the laser. Keep thurning the cog and you will see how the laser rises or decreases and then resets by popping back into place.

6) anyways reset the cog back to the position you marked it at and then give it a 1/8th turn clockwise towards the little metal tab......that should do it. Dont seal the PS2 up completely...you can check it by putting a disc in and putting back on the little black plastic cover over the laser bay ....power it up and see if it works....if not fiddle with that wheel some more.

7) if 1 - 6 were successful, seal back up your PS2 and enjoy.

I know its a very brief and fragmented solution but I hate typing and it works...trust me...i did this. You can also look it up on a PS2 discussion board where "hobbyists" with their heads in the clouds discuss their video gaming passion (very very similar to TERB)

P.S. Oh yeah..while the sucker is open you may as well swab the lens with alcohol while you're at it.
