Is there any support for the locked out workers at CBC? Is public broadcasting cared about at all in Canada? Or are we just turning our airwaves into a Walmart of broadcasting?

Good question. I think for the most part the entertainment offerings on the CBC suck - but the news and documentary product is usually very good.

It's useless at defining Canada unless you like hockey and think Coronation St. forms our identity.
Either we fund the CBC properly and give it mandate to give us quality programming or just let CTV and others deliver the same shit.

Is it me or do all the CBC news coverage anchors talk with the same "and this concerns us very much" type of tone?

This may be due to the fact that CBC journalists "TRY" to report in a non biased fashion being that they are a crown corporation. It would be interesting to know if the ones that leave change their style?

If they start contracting out jobs, it's just another company trying to squeeze every penny out. I like it when people have good paying stable jobs with proper benefits to keep them healthy. This is how wealth is created in a community.
If every 6 months/year/2years you have to worry about if your contract is going to be renewed can you really make roots in a community? If you are compensated with cash in lieu of benfits that a full time unionized employee has will you actually spend that money on your health?
Don't contract out the jobs from CBC. You may be ECONOMICALLY healthier for it but that is it!

Whew!
