Considering the purchase of a Quad ATV for the Chateau, but know little about them as far as good, better, best as a small utility vehicle. I'm considering
CanAm and Hondas but am open to other suggest and to learn why. Do you get what you pay for? I don't the latest and the greatest.

You need to be very careful with them. I have personally known 2 people who were killed riding them. Albeit, one was not wearing a helmet and had had a few beers (though the autopsy stated that he was not impared).

Good enough warning but not something i would have to deal with. Helmets are mandatory in my mind with this stuff as is drinking and operating one.

Go with the biggest you can afford, it's a good healthy way to explore nature. :thumb:
Size would help, but I'm not so sure about full time 4x as in many CanAms. I'm a big fan of canoes and snowshoes, not at the same time of course, to see nature. Nature tends to hear you coming on a 4x4.

Depending our your budget, take a look at an Argo: amphibious, mult-passenger, multi-purpose. Once you've tried one of these babies, a regular 4X4 ATV will seem like a kids toy.

I wouldn't rule out Yamaha, they have a pretty sweet line up. The important thing is what are you going to do with it. Haul around yard stuff, plow snow? scream down trails and fly around gravel pits? Go for a nice ride down to a fishing hole? They all have different traits. If you're going to be doing a lot of wilderness trail riding bigger might now be better, the smaller it is the easier to squeeze through narrow gaps. A working atv size might help for the heavy stuff. Something to ride on decent trails and old dirt roads take the kids/grand kids for a ride, maybe something bigger so it's more comfortable, or a nice light and fast two stroke if you like speed.

The Yamaha line of Kodiaks & Grizzlies over 450cc are fantastic, the Raptor line are really, really fast but not so great for anything else (IMO). They also have a line of side-by-side which are as pricey as the Argo but can only perform a fraction of the functions. You've really got to try an Argo to get a feel for how incredible they are; I don't know anyone who has anything negative to say about them (other than price).

Just be ready for one thing....you need to do lots more repairs than other toys..... the units are asked to do a lot more, and you have to realize that the repairs are just part of life. And yes you get very complacent very quickly on them, and that is when you have to give your head a shake and re-focus.

Whoa!, Sure muddy up the water, should have known. Hmmmmm. I'm going to suspect big bucks. Ripping around/speed is not the main activity, just got to get where I want to go with or without a load. Guaranteed,I 'd be only one on the block with one, soooooooooooo.

They are pricey, but they are really incredible. They really can go anywhere. I used to haul a 16 ft' Zodiac, electric trolling motor & marine battery around on the back of my Yamaha Grizzly, out to some remote lake. Not anymore!! The Argo does everything you can possibly want it to do. I can take the whole family out with me if they want to go out. I got rid of the snowmobiles, but kept 1 ATV and 1 enduro along with the Argo.

It is usually the roll over that kills people, either riding like a maniac or rolling into a ditch.

Actually 13-15G's for what they are (650cc 8x8) is not out of line, but i'd better buff up on my small engine skills. Roof, cabs, screen? Agh i'm a wossie but I did say any time any day and I'm no rookie as on a rainy day they come in handy. I like the two year guarantee as anyone can cover an ATV for a year. An inclinometer would be a must, OEM or AM, to stop those brain fart moments.

Please be very careful, as an insurer I've seen too many accidents on these things and we never made money on them, but used them as loss leaders.

The side by side ones that are really built for 2 with roll cages would be my suggestion, if you're safety minded

I do understand that and that's one reason the ARGOs catch my eye.

Do you take any kind of trolling motor along with you in the Argo?
If you do, what size and does it handle well?
