I think the main morning people - the guys who really bring in the advertising dollars make pretty good coin.
I've heard in the area of 300 k a year for Derringer plus bonuses. But his sidekicks - Bill and Ryan - probably allot less.
Believe it or not, CBC 1 is the Number One rated radio station in the mornings in Toronto, followed by CHUM, CHFI, and Q107.
Top personalities can also do voice overs, etc. Another source of income.
I remember when poor Martin Streek killed himself, he was living in a condo on Broadview. Not exactly Forrest Hill, so based on his lifestyle, I'd guess a guy like him to be in the 80 to 100k a year slot.
I think the radio industry is extremely vicious and they fire radio personalities every other week. It's a case where the radio stations themselves (and the corportations that own them) are quite old school in their approach to doing business - the less you pay your people the better.
I knew a woman who worked for the City TV empire as a producer for a number of years and she would complain that it was an incredibly competative environment where you never felt secure and the money was shit, and there was always some 20 year old tart who was willing to do her job for free. Not a good place to be.
