I know most of you are smart enough not to fall for something like this. However, today one of my employees did fall for it. She paid the "$100 fine" without question..... I was dying when she told me.

It is quite a well thought out little virus actually. The fact that a lot of people down load music and porn..... the hijacking of your PC, and the threat of jail time could cause quite a scare in the right person. Don't fall for it!!!

lol!!!

That's not even the worst part. Once you pay the fine, they do all kinds of shit in terms of identify theft. The 100 bucks is the least of her worries..lol.

My buddy got the virus as well and asked me to help him get rid of it. It's nasty, completely locks out your computer. I read up on several ways to get rid of the virus, tried them all including creating a bootable USB drive but in the end I couldn't get rid of it. I didn't try re-installing Windows. That sounds like a pain but if it's the only thing that works, we may have to try that.

It's easy to get rid off.

Boot the PC up in safe mode. Download malwarebytes anti-malware. Run quick scan of MBAM and it will find it and remove it.

Now, after you boot your pc back in normal mode and run a quick scan again, it might still show that it's finding stuff. Keep scanning every day and it might go away. If it doesn't go to MBAM forum and one the guys will help totally clean your cp out for free (or you make a small donation)

I tried booting in safe mode a dozen times but before I can click anything (which would allow me to run AVG or download malwarebytes) that screen pops up and the computer freezes.

Seems like a variation of a virus that's been going around for about a year now. Similar to the "pay us, or we erase your hard drive" scam.

Strange, I had the virus and that's how I got rid of it.

Id still go to MBAM forum and do some reading. There is always threads on the virus and variations of it. Im sure someone else is the in the situatiion where it even pops up in safe mode.

I had it too. (After surfing xhamster)

Shut the radio off on the computer and the computer could boot up.

I then bought malwarebytes on my other computer, loaded it onto a usb key and then installed it on my laptop. MB easily found the virus and eliminated it. (So much for Macaffee - deleted that POS)

I have had quite a few customers who have been hit with this. When I get called for it I pop the drive out and scan it on my laptop to remove the infection. I use Malwarebytes as well and it always removes it.

if you fall for this you deserve the end result
She's actually a good kid. Unfortunately there are a lot of naive like her who get taken advantage of. No, she didn't deserve it. However.... she did just get a $100 education.

And as posted above..... they did go to Canadian Tire to pay it. Gas bar attendant kept questioning him too.... Her BF got mad at the guy and told him to mind his own business. He was embarrassed that he got caught downloading porn, and wouldn't admit it to his GF. lol.

I got that a while back and got rid of it by starting up in safe mode and then "re-booting"? (not a computer guy) to a time the day before I got the virus then ran a scan. Gone! My thought is if she was so fast to pay the "fine" what is she guilty of that she wanted to get rid of it so fast? ;)

Well.... she thought she would go to jail for downloading music.... because the RCMP had just locked out her laptop and told her so. They even put a picture of handcuffs on notice.... scary shit!

Ya i get it. I freaked out when i got it too at first. I didnt do anything wrong but with surfing for "normal" porn I thought you never know what else might have snuck in there with all the crap out there. Live and learn. Hope she doesnt suffer any other shit from this.

The question is...what did your employee do to make her feel guilty and pay for it....

and the answer is...... she's just that naive. This episode did not surprise me at all.... Par for the course, sadly.

Now, she tells me, her BF swears up and down he does not look at girls on the PC while she is at work. She also says she was going to ask me for advice before paying it.... but he insisted they just pay it and be done with it. So..... what he really does is another question altogether.

I got this virus as well. I used system restore to back to a restore point a week before when the virus was not there and it worked fine. I believe I started up in safe mose then used the system restore tool on windows.

These ransomware virus attack computers with out dated Java and/or Flash browser plugins. Basically infecting a system unnoticed while browsing a webpage or streaming a video, the virus is then triggered some time later. Update these plugins to the latest release (they are free) or disable them and they have no way of getting into your system. In fact US Homeland Security issued a warning couple months ago urging Americans to disable Java entirely LOL Oracle has since come out with the updated Java release

poker, can you put her mind at ease, mayeb the bf wasn't visiting porn sites (ya right haha). One of my older systems was infected it's only used for downloading movies.... I swear :)
