My Win-XP comp is running so slowly, I am considering re-formating the hard drive. Questions:
1. Do I have to purchase new copies of all my programs? (Or at least, of the programs that are restruicted to only one registration, like windows, office, etc?)
2. Do I have to get on the internet and find/download the lastest drivers for all my computer components (video card, printer, etc) and for all my hardware accessories (cameras, etc)?
3. Anything else that a person who asks these kinds of questions might not have thought of?

Many things to try before the extreme measure of reformat.

Empty Temporary internet files.

Empty Recycle bin.

Go through your hard disk and delete any large files you dont want anymore.

Make sure you have lots of disk space.

Download CCleaner and run it. http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

Still Slow?
Check your Tasks Manager for running process's that you do not want (google the process image name), and uninstall any application you do not want ie:(browser toolbar's , printer ordering supply process, printer software update process, adobe software update process etc.) .

Run CCleaner again

Still Slow?
Uninstall your anti-virus - don't forget to Reboot - and then reinstall the anti-virus and update it.

Still Slow?
Still more - ie Defragging, rebuild swap file.

licencing generally works :
as long as you have the serial numbers you can reinstall on same comp
