I don't know what password you're looking to recover, but in some instances you may also wish to investigate being able to simply reset the password without recovering it. Eg, a Windows Admin password if you have physical access to the machine and the legal rights to change the password (eg it's your machine)

Our tenant moved out and left some stuff behind. One is a nice computer but when I turned it on it asked for a password. I asked one of those computer stores on College and the guy said just install a new O/S.

If you want the computer wipe the hard drive, and install a new O/S
If you want to see what's on it, buy a new HDD and install a new O/S and then mount that drive as a secondary one and you should be able to browse it
New HDDs are super cheap now, not a huge expense.

I don't care what the previous owner had on the HD.

Since the computer has a Windows 10 COA , the guy at the electronics store said he could install a fresh Win 10 for $50 (if I remember correctly)

Ex co-worker asked me how a few months ago...then my P.O.S windows 10 admin password screwed up for no reason.
I did this: https://www.top-password.com/knowledge/reset-windows-10-password-with-ubuntu.html
Worked beautifully!
Last time I looked at Ophcrack (a while ago) it wasn't able to recover Win10 passwords. Hirensboot CD/USB been around since dirt. Have made multiple recovery CD's with it but never have used it.
Thanks. I'll run this by my friend who's a bit of a geek.

Great suggestion
The hiren boot disk is what I usually use for such a thing.

How can I recover my yahoo account ? The password is wrong I guess but I thought it is the correct one, it keeps asking me a verification question that I don't have an answer to, is there a trick to recovering a yahoo account ?

It never happened to me but can't you reset your password? I think Yahoo sends a temporary password to your alternative email address or something like that.

Yup. I was the backup account for a friend and that's what happened. Instructions came to my e-mail.

My friend is trying to install a fresh Windows 10 on my computer. He reached the point where Microsoft is asking for my cell and/or email address. Is it safe to do so?

What happens after I provide the cell and or email address? More questions?

During the process of installing a fresh Windows 10, I encountered, inter-alia, the following:

1) I provided them with my email address, and just below that is a box that says "password".
Question: Which password do they want?

2) Then there is a box that say "PIN".
Question: Which PIN do they want?
