Recommend a Chilean or Argentinian Malbec or Carmenere. Big and flavourful as any Bordeaux/Claret, Barolo or Shiraz, but at 100th the price. Available at most LCBO outlets, specially the big ones QQ, Bayview, Davisville, Dupont.

Um, yea, that's a VERY good wine, but also beyond what you're probably looking to spend LOL

Asking what's a good red wine without specifying price, region, the meal, etc is useless.

If you're drinking quality red wine, you probably won't get a head ache.

Go to a wine auction or try #10 Liquor store where they have a great selection of wines. My oersonal fav is Chateau de Beaucastel 1988. Although Lafite is good don't buy it to drink it.....it's more of an investment. Same can be said for Petrus.

Stay away from vintages of 1986 as that was the year Chernobly blew up. alittle atomic fall out with your wine.

You can also contact wine agencies if you wan to buy it in a case lot.

If you want to drink something good that is everyday wine yes by all means try Wolf Blass of Yellow Tail or there are many good wines that are 4 or five years old. Go to a wine bar like Crush and try sme out.

Oui, oui exactement! Chilean red wines are great as are Australians, but I still prefer to have a good French and or Italian red wine for that special roast or 'filet mignon.'

It all depends on what you like. Annessa's list is good BUT it may be only good to her. Here's what you do, get a wine from different countries and regions and see what suits you and what doesn't. If you can still see at that point, tell us what you like.

Personally speaking, i like Chilleans and Australians (friend got me hooked on the Wolf Blass Yellow and Red). Good strong red's, full of body and a nice finish. Don't like french or italian much cause the finish is kinda flat. Just my 2 cents, now go out there and drink!!! ;)

Rosemount Black Diamond Shiraz is a nice one, though I don't know where to get it in TO.

Bolla Bardolino is an inexpensive, low tannin red that I like a lot.

Gallo Sonoma is Gallo's relatively-upscale brand and it includes a fairly nice Merlot-I also love their Chardonay though it's a little sweet.

Montevina is a California label with a nice Red Zinfandel and a slightly sweet Barbera that I like (but haven't been able to find in a while).

Estancia is a pretty good but relatively inexpensive Califaoria
Winery that makes several good wines-they probably still make a nice Pinot Noir but that stuff got trendy and i can't afford it anymore :-(

Elk Cove is an Oregon winery that makes a really nice Pinot Noir

Columbia Crest is another one I always seem to like.

Soon to be in a store near you!

Wal-Mart Wine

Some Wal-Mart customers in the United States will soon be
able to sample
a new discount item, Wal-Mart's own brand of wine.

The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J
Gallo Winery of
Modesto, California, to produce the spirits at an affordable
price, in
the $2-5 range.

"While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a
bottle of
Wal-Mart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a
market for
cheap wine," said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at
Roger Williams
University In Bristol, R.I.

She quickly added, "Of course, the right name is very
important."

With that in mind, here are the top 13 suggested names for
Wal-Mart Wine:

13. Chateau Traileur Parc

12. White Trashfindel

11. Big Red Gulp

10. Grape Expectations

9. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays"

8. NASCARbernet

7. Chef Boyardeaux

6. Peanut Noir

5. Chateau des Moines

4. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!

3. World Championship Riesling

2. Sam's Shiraz

And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine...

1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with
both white
meat (Possum) and red meat (squirrel).
