That's SSD, not HDD. Mistake or more misinformation on your part?
Some geek on CBC yesterday did a comparison with others similar products on the market and it boiled down to about $300 more than one from HP. The retina scan and Thunderbolt feature, twice the throughput speed of USB3, 20 times faster than USB2, and dual channel are interesting.

Yepper!
Here's an interesting 'proprietary twist' in the OP, to help keep it as pricey as possible.....:biggrin1:

Those hoping to swap in their own SSDs should probably look to the more traditional MacBook Pros — Apple notes that "By not purchasing standard parts, we can create a product that's more elegant and more efficient."
So how many you and your security guard sidekick blackcock13, buying???.....:eyebrows:

Way to duck the question, WP!
LOL!
Didn't duck at all!
Perhaps the answer just went over your wee tech challenged pea pickin' brain!....:D

Apparently the USB3 and Thunderbolt is not being offered at this time, even though the web site says so, but someone told me yesterday that this might be a ploy to find out how much of their market is professional, much like when they didn't offer Avid Video Editing for Mac, but there was such a stink that they changed their minds or loose lots of big money clients.

The feeling is will be offered in short order and the unit will sing big time.

Heard that an original Apple computer sold for $380,000:Eek:. Damn, I knew I should have kept the old clunker.

Could you imagine if Apple had gotten the first foothold in the industry over Microsoft and IBM, what the tech industry would be like today? All our stuff would work, and tens of thousands of people who make their living keeping grossly inadequate soft and hardware functioning, would not have jobs, because there would be nothing to fix if Apple was the company with 85% market share. Sigh. Maybe someday....

Never gonna happen.
The Apple vs PC competition is nothing more than a redux of the old Sony Betamax vs VHS 80s thingy. Sony claimed to be superior but peeps and market chose VHS because VHS did more and was more economical. Apple will always remain the Betamax of PCs.....:eyebrows:

But as we can see Apple has their converts. My girlfriend's son just bought her an iPad. He is locked into the Apple stuff. But I tell you she hates it and when we "compete" to see which technology works better, (I use PC), my stuff is as good and mostly better.

Apple is not about function for price. that argument misses the point. it is about conspicuous wealth. not a huge amount but sufficient that the buyer doesn't have to worry about value so much. also, it's about getting a machine with support at the mall. this costs. mostly the folk using apple don't do anything technical. simple app oriented computer use is fine for them. there's room for everybody.
