Heard the same rumor. Didn't happen, but they are close. Talks resume tomorrow. Sounds like the players are caving.

Season to start Dec. 15 MAYBE. Players must approve the deal first.
If approved 72 game schedule planned starting Dec. 15.

It is difficult to care, but the money involved is asinine.
If the players sign they will be "the losers" as apparently they will ONLY receive 50% of approximately $2,000,000,000.00 in basketball revenues.
I find that mind numbing.

They are acting like all of us .... Every union person I mean ... How is what they are doing any different then what TTC drivers , teachers etc.,

Although they aren't like all of us cause nobody pays to watch us work ... The players aren't demanding anything .... They are giving up stuff ... This isn't about greedy players wanting stuff ... This is about how much will they give up ...
I do not much care for the unions of the two groups you mentioned either.
All are overpriced, all seem to feel they are entitled and all seem to think I will pay for whatever they demand.
Higher TTC fares, property taxes and ticket prices.
This sense of entitlement is non-sustainable

The players are overpaid. If they don't get their percentage of revenues cut back there will be fewer team and thus less players. The league currently owns the New Orleans franchise with no buyer in sight. There are more teams close to joining New Orleans. Major centers such as NY, LA, Boston, are in great shape, Carolina, Sacramento, Memphis etc.all need financial relief. I have no sympathy for the players.
The owners, many billionaires are not much better. Their egos and in some cases greed has allowed this to happen.
The fans are the ones that get it up the ass. High ticket prices, outlandish prices for souvenirs. How many families with 2 children can afford to go to a Raps game and get decent seats?
If you can go the the game sucks. Watching it on TV is painful enough without wasting a boatload of money.
No matter what the settlement I don't see it doing anything for the fans, if anything tickets etc will continue to rise in price and the play will not improve.

Seeing as the game sucks, right now the fans are the winners.

It's also nice to get increased coverage of other sports with no NBA.

I was quoting Dawgger. Yell at him. ; )
I see the wannabe thread policeman is at it again...

Actually, shack made a very good point. Many casual fans don't care - which is terrible because last year was one of the best in recent memory in terms of competitiveness, number of great players and quality of play. The league should have used last season's highs in television exposure and overall good play, etc., to launch into a new level of popularity. Instead, the NBA, its owners and the players can't seem to get out of their own way.

The owners don't just want to win, they want to crush the union while at the same time not make improvements in the real business model (revenue sharing, marketing, growth, cutting dead weight [misplaced franchises, WNBA, NBA TV, etc.] new media, etc.) or make the game any better for the average fan. For that very reason I'll continue to side with the players, who have been for all intents and purpose told, "take what we give you, have no say in how things are run (into the ground) and like it. Or else..." The players have made massive concessions - over $200 million/year (when the league claims to have lost $300M/season) in salaries, length of contracts, guaranteed salaries, etc. - and the owners who have let the golden goose slowly die have just demanded more.

Something is broken in the NBA and it has to be fixed ... What other league talks more about where their stars are going next after contract expires .... Often these stories are talked about more then the product itself .. The NBA has become a reality show more then a league ...

It is the only league where a Cinderlla team doesn't win a Championship .... So if your not a A team then your not missing the NBA ...
Some of the reasons I'm not a B-Ball fan. Like you said, the off-court stuff is more interesting than the actual product.

I was hoping they would never reach agreement and would just go away. Used to be a big fan years ago but all the damn gang banger rapper thugs these days...... give me NCAA b ball any day. Actually the best basketball I ever watched was high school games in the states. Players playing for the love of the game without all the theatrics, those were the days .......

your comment might be relevant if this was 1998 and Latrell Sprewell was still in the league!!! this generation of great players have nothing to do with the thug life and all that nonsense. You are trying to tell me that the likes of Lebron, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and Derek Rose are gangstas?? I suggest you take a second look grandpa, the league is great despite all this lock out crap. As for NCAA basketball being great, unless you actually have an emotional attachement to a school, NCAA ball is terrible, most great players are leaving after first year straight to the NBA and the other half that is drafted by the league are Europeans.
