I just got back from 4 days in San Francisco and 4 days in Las Vegas. I say do not go on a trip to get what you can get at home for less. If you really want to have an expensive meal. there are no shortage of places to spend your bucks. There is nothing in LV that you can not get at home. I suggest you see the sights and get the best bang for your buck. I did not stay in the best hotels because it is just a place to sleep. Get yourself a monorail pass, for the week it is about $55 per person. I paid $36 for 4 days. The monorail brings you to all big attractions. You can eat in some of the more expensive places, but there are so many good reasonable priced places. Eat well once a day and snack or get a take out the rest of the day. We went to Ellis Island Restaurant where the rib steaks are $6.99, the portions are huge and you can enjoy a beer from their micro brewery. There are lesser known casinos like Casino Royal that have food courts that have a foot long hot dog that is quite good, ($2) it is actually a foot long. There are a million good places to eat in LV. We were at the Garden Court Buffet twice. Once for a big breakfast ($8), and then for a late lunch ($9) at 2:00 PM. At buffets, fill yourself up but to not stuff yourself, you need to walk around to see the sights.
When in Vegas, get the best bang for your buck. Do not gamble, it is all the gamblers that go to Vegas that pay for the fantastic deals that I get when I go to LV.
