I am currently looking for a job and am I’m considering using a service that instantly sends your resume out to thousands of "head hunters".

Some friends have recommended it others did not like the idea. I would like your opinion whether it is worth paying them 20 dollars for this, or not?

Thanks

For 20 bucks, why not?

If it were 200 or 2,000, maybe not, but for 20 bucks, go for it.

It's only $20... but I would still ask this service for some references. There is always the possibility they may never actually send you resume out and just take the money. What's the name of the company? Member of the Better Business Bureau? Depending on your career goals... http://www.workopolis.com/ may work better and even reach more potential clients. Good luck on your search!

Its a bad idea
A good blitz never looks like a blitz. Overkill and over exposure will kill your good name before you have a chance to make one for yourself. You get more mileage from ten well placed applications than a thousand random ones. Do some networking and get your foot in some doors.

Do it. You'll have several Head Hunters placing you in front of hiring managers for positions you want.

The market your skills and qualifications to clients that they have built a reputation in providing qualified candidate for positions.

I tried it myself a month ago, and several head hunters called, and I am now going on interviews that they made possible. It's likely that if these companies are using a recruiting service for a particular position, then they are not likely posting it on job boards as well (I haven't seen the positions advertised else where). Also, if they use one recruiter exclusively for the position, that means the competition has been dropped from hundreds to 10 or 20.

Once upon a time, I worked in a personnel department. Well, that shows how long ago it was. It was before the term 'Human Resources' gained currency. Anyway, I always hated unsolicited, off-the-mark resumes. Have to agree with what WhaWhaWha said.

I'm a good blitz and I look good too...

Consider interviewing at a repuatble "head hunter" agency like Mandrake before you send/spend on an e-blast.

Top hire professionals work with top recruit professionals, not email spammers.

If you read his post carefully, his resume is not going directly to HR departments, and/or companies. It goes to recruitment and placement agencies who discuss your goals, and qualifications, and then market you to a client of theres for jobs that are of interest to you.

It is definitely worth a try. I find it much more efficient to be contacted by a recruiter who is aggressively marketing my talents to the right people, and who is paid by the company that hires you. It's in their own best interest to support you and bring you into a face-to-face with their clients if you are in fact qualified for the job.

Bullfrog:

I saw that he was talking about recruitment agencies but I think that some of the points made still apply.

One also has to be a little selective of the agencies used. A number operate with the idea that if you throw enough mud against a wall, some will stick. They waste everyone's time.

Just make sure you're not sending template resumes out to potential ERs. That buzzing sound you hear is your resume going through the shredder...
