David Johansen, lead singer of the New York Dolls and who later sang under the name Buster Poindexter, dead at 75. He was suffering from Stage 4 cancer, a brain tumor, and a broken back.

David Johansen, singer from the seminal punk band the New York Dolls, dies at 75

He kind of got annoying when he became Buster Poindexter. I never really followed them. Their music didn't reach me I guess. Strikes me as someone who was surviving on a life of self promotion with little substance. I think he did a spot on one of Anthony Bourdain's episodes.
