Don'tcha hate it when a quality TV series like Friday Night Lights is done?

Just downloaded and watched the last episode of Friday Night Lights Season 5, which aired on DirecTV Wed. night. Apparently that is the absolute final episode of the series.

Interesting how invested you can get in a show and its characters. I actually felt a bit of a personal loss when the episode was over. Similar to the way I felt when great series such as Hill Street Blues, Seinfeld, The Sopranos, etc., etc. ended.

Thank goodness there are still quality shows available, whether on Canadian cable, or via the Internet if not aired in Canada.

Some of my current favorites:

Southland
Lights Out
Justified
Episodes
The Good Wife
Parenthood
Modern family

And looking forward to the next seasons of:

Mad Men
Men Of A Certain Age
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
Sarah Silverman Show
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Dude, it was announced that season 5 of FNL was the last one back in summer '10 like 9 months ago.

Most of the cast has moved on - Zach Gilford on Off The Map, Adrienne Palicki on Criminal Minds, Minka Kelly on Parenthood, Matt Lauria on Chicago Code, Jesse Plemons on Cold Case, etc.

Kind of behind the times are we?

Unfortunately some programs are like cockroaches. You can't get rid of them no matter what. It's the 21st season of Survivor; WTF!

Sometimes great shows just stick around too long and they jump the shark.

Example:

NYPD Blue. Should have died when Jimmy Smits left the show (because David Milch was so strung out on heroin that he could no longer contribute to the show)

Weeds: What the fuck is that even about now

Sopranos: Really, it stuck around about 2.5 seasons too long and they just started reimagining the same old story lines with different Characters.

Law and Order: Should have been killed off when Jerry Orbach (RIP) left the show.

All in the Family

I could go on and on and on.
