Garth Hudson, a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist best known for his distinctive organ and saxophone work with the Band, and who in his later years remained an in-demand player among young musicians — including Neko Case, Norah Jones, and Wilco — died early Tuesday morning at the Ten Broeck Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing in upstate New York in age 87. With his passing, every member of The Band is gone.

Didn't realize he was the last member of the Band. Robbie Robertson died last year.

Sad day , last remaining of the band .:(

Such a talented group of musicians .

How many bands had 3 solid singers .
They had 4 singers, but Robbie was just so so. The other 3 were unique and brilliant. Their harmonies were one of a kind, not pretty but raw and awesome.

I saw Garth's organ at the Rock Hall of Fame in Cleveland. It was a beast. It looked it had about 5,000 buttons and keys and controls. It was awesome.

I don't think that he sang lead ever. He was just a fill-in voice.

The first time I heard it clearly was on his 1st solo album when he sang Showdown at Big Sky. I would have never recognized it.

Here he is showing his chops. Classically trained. However. Not the cheeriest of ditties. I honestly never liked the Band. However RIP
There again, I don't like Neil Young. Kate and Anna Mcgarricle or Ian and Sylvia. So what do I know?

I keep an iPod with 17,000 songs in my car and just leave it on shuffle. I turn on my car today and the 2nd song that came up was Chest Fever.

Yeah, I don't like the Band either but that Garth video is o.k.
A bit but not too much of Neil Young is o.k.
The others I don't know enough about. Syliva seems alright at 1:08:30 here though.

I was actually at the Calgary segment of that concert. 3 days at McMahon Stadium. Saw Janice Joplin back stage sitting at the piano drinking a large bottle of something. Then went out in front of the stage to catch her set. She was actually pretty good, considering I never liked her either. lol.
