The late Tom Cheek, like the late Harry Carey in Chicago and the great Ernie Harwell in Detroit, had a distinctive voice that you really welcomed into your car or living room. Tom's voice was cheerful and reassuring. He always called a good game with few errors and stumblings. His powerful voice over 27 years (4306 games) was truly the "Voice of the Blue Jays."

Say hello to Harry for us. He was a great broadcaster and a sure thing for the Hall of Fame.

A testament to his abilities as a broadcaster as well as a person can be seen in the 4306 consecutive games called over 27 seasons. He has hall of fame written all over him!

A tremendous loss for the baseball community. My heart goes out to his family.

RIP Mr. Cheek

It's funny, my daughter and I were discussing cottage memories the other day and she said she remembered as a kid lying in bed at night and hearing Tom Cheek's voice as I sat out on the porch with the Jays game. Memories of him are going to be around for a long time.

Gone, but not forgotten.

We lost a great announcer in the Blue Jays organization. I'll never forget the year of 1993. Tom Cheek calling the game, when we won our second world series title. Thanks for the memories.

It's funny how easy it is to identify the assholes in here.
And how easy it is to add them to the Ignore list.
Wayda miss the point, asshole. Welcome to Ignore.

Big Dogie please remove your post, it's really disrespectful!!!!!!!
Alot of us grew up listening to him, through good and bad performing years. He is highly respected by Blue Jay, and sports fans in general.
He was a real thoroughbred through all those years.

Here and there
Tom will sorely be missed. He was about 6'5" -- probably would have descibed himself as a "tall drink of water" -- and only looked down on people literally, never figuratively.

A perfect fit for an expansion franchise that grew into champinship form. I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell from youth to middle age, and Tom was every bit as professional and impressionable to Toronto, Ontario and much of Canada. He touched all the highlights (and lowlights) in Jays' history...

God speed, Tom...

A true voice of summer is silenced. The Tom and Jerry show wasn't the first Blue Jays broadcast team. Anyone remember his first sidekick and his claim to fame?
