Hot off the press!

"HP reported that it plans to announce that it will discontinue operations for webOS devices, specifically the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webOS software going forward."

Really bad news for those who snapped up the new TouchPad in the last couple of weeks as prices were slashed. Even worse news for those Apple haters as another iPad competitor bites the dust.

As I said before, it is beginning to look like a rerun of the iPod situation where Apple came into a market and wiped out everybody else.

I've had a Palm Pre for the last year and a half. Can't really complain as it does almost everything but there is such little support for the phone, and the app store is a joke. Needless to say I will be upgrading to an Android or Iphone as soon as I can

Apparently the Source has them for $99 in store today (16gb Touchpad), and Bestbuy will have them for that price tomorrow.
Not bad as an e-reader/web browser etc.

I think I will pick one up....
Better plan on hitting stores early as I doubt many are left in the GTA.. Seems like BB and FS sold through their stock overnight and the Source carries a lot less quantity and is sold out online.

I'll snap up a couple of those if i can find them. but so far no luck. webOS is a very good OS, it's a shame HP gave up so quickly. Hopefully they will sell it and it will go open source

bummer, I wanted to see webOS take hold too...good to have competition, but the herd wants iPad, so I kinda understand why HP got frustrated and jumped ship...there are already so many others crankin out tablets, and gotta worry about all the silly patent bullshit.

I guess HP will just be printers & monitors? I heard the enterprise-level software they want to shift focus to, sucks.

I am constantly amazed how liittle vision CEOs have. HP decided to buy some software company for 11B....for that kind of money they could have sold 28M touchpads at a $300 loss and made a huge dent in the tablet market. That would have resulted in lots of apps and really made the ecosystem viable for this device. The guy running HP is a twit and this company is headed to the ditch at top speed. I bet the stock in under $10 in 18 months... also, why shut down WEBOS, why not at least try and sell it.

The company HP is attempting to acquire is a good move on their part.... who needs 5% margins...

11x annual revenues for a company? Also they just exited the analytics business in Jan when they killed NEO now they are back in?

T.O.
they didn't talk about dumping their printer business
And they won't be; margins are high on printers, and HP is the largest maker in the world.

I guess HP will just be printers & monitors?
And servers. A bulk of their operations are corporate products and support; their retail PC division is relatively small by comparison (in terms of revenue).

any chance you would be willing to part with one ?
DJ' bought them for a small profit on CL, times are tough. Let him make his measly few $s.
He needs the coin to support his Apple habit and help fund Jobs' spaceship out in California. ;) haha
