ripping off an audio cd

If you have an official music audio cd and you're trying to rip off the song tracks off that cd. How do you do it?

my computer keeps copying them as shortcuts, not the actual sound files.

Term: if you have windows media player, you can rip via that. There is a tab right below the toolbar that says "rip" and I don't think it means let out a loud fart lol.....

It's pretty automatic. Make sure you pick a bit rate over 128 though. Less than that and the sound quality blows.....

Pfft. Rip to wave and encode as V4 in LAME.
