Didn't Evil back out of a Canyon jump because he was sick? I seem to recall him on tv lying in bed at the hospital.
Maybe he or his estate whitewashed this because I cannot find this anywhere on the internet.

Evel jumped the Snake River Canyon. He couldn't get the permits for the Grand Canyon or some other road block.

His steam powered rocket cycle (yikes...just the the stupid thought of that) malfunctioned and he crashed at the bottom of the canyon. That could've been ONE of his trips to the hospital trip you're thinking of.


Robbie was a great performer and stuntman but I don't think he or anyone else, would reach the heights of infamy as Evel.

Always loved George Hamilton's portrayal of Evel in 1971

Somone else also mentioned that, but I believe the stunt was delayed to this later date because of sickness. I was kind of young but I was watching the big show in the evening and was diappointed that it was to be delayed to a later date. I remember my mom checking in with me before going out to play bridge or something and she said Evel did not look that sick to her.
At work, one of our vendors who is older than me remembers it as well. Maybe it was bad for Evel's reputation and they somehow got rid any trace of it?

He was probably drunk AF lol

I lived through the Evel days. Saw almost all of his televised jumps on Wide World of Sports on ABC. I had a pic in my locker of Evel on his Sportster doing a wheelie.
