ROCKSTAR: Supernova

Tonight was the debut of the second installment to this seasons worldwide search for the next rockstar. This time around there are two Canadian representatives, one from BC, and one from Toronto. Supernova is a culmination of three rock bands fused together to form a new group and sound. They brought Tommy Lee from Motley Crew, Jason Newsted from Metallica, and Gilby Clarke from Guns N Roses together to make up Supernova. This show is in search for their lead vocal singer. The winner is to lead the band in dropping their first single in September, and performing a huge show on new year's eve in Las Vegas. The girls are hotter this time around, and the guys seem to be a bit more edgier. Looks like we're going to have a rocking summer...

As I was watching it, it hit me - where have all the hot rocker chicks gone? I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing one front this band. There are some good candidates on the show.

Definitely some hotties on this years show. The guys are edgy, but I don't know about their talent just yet. Hopefully this season will be just as good.

The hot chicks are only there for eye candy. They have ZERO chance of winning.

And while I like to ogle the ladies as much as the next guy, the whole thing just seems so fake to me b/c they keep all these ladies around who don't have a hope in hell of winning.

I totally agree. Female vocalists are hard to front bands because otherwise they would be solo acts or signed differently all together. However, you do need to have them around to have guys like us watch the show. I am also curious to see what kind sound this new put together band will have. I mean INXS was INXS. Supernova has some pretty big shoes to fill. Anyways, it'll be interesting.

I'd have to agree with you. I thought they would come up with alot more talent this time around. However, I do have to keep in mind that it is a television show after all and they kind of have to pick personality and looks as well over talent, otherwise no one would watch. Hopefully we'll see some better singing with shows to come.

Well, it has been said repeatedly, this year and last, that a rock star doesn't necessarily have to have a good singing voice. Mind you the overall talent on "Rockstar" is far better and more watchable than "Idol".

Lucas even has that same controversial attitude that J.D. had last year, "enamouring" him with the other competitors. Coincidence?

Of all the performances this week, I feel compelled to comment only on Zayra's. As the panel pointed out, it was completely inappropriate for the band. That's okay with me because I wouldn't mind seeing her on her own. To put it bluntly, the way she looked and sang tonight, I could have j/o'd to her.

The Aussie "Toby" has the pipes, swagger, and star appeal to win....it's his to lose at this point.

...to be honest I think a female will win.

I'm putting my money on Dilana ...I know it's difficult for a female to front a hard rock band but it can be done and has L7,Cycle Sluts from Hell,Wendy 'O' Williams to name a few.

you also have to remember who her band will be Gilbey Clarke,Tommy Lee,Jason Newsted ...all established hardcore musicians....I think these guys want a hardcore chick to front the band.

her performances have been best so far IMHO ....Toby comes in close,he nailed that Killers tune.

whether a female or male fronts the band they will still be some what successful!...

It's so obvious that Tommy is hoping to slam one of the female contestents. Especially with asking the short one "do you have panties on?" after she performed.

And Supernovacream is a bogus band. These guys were brought together by the studio offering them each big bucks and nothing more. They didn't call each other or knew each other before the show.

If it was hardcore music (hard rock or metal), nope, I wouldn't listen. Sorry, I've never seen a hardcore rock or metal band with a female lead singer that could pull it off. And millions of hardcore rock/metal band fans feel exactly the same way.

Call me ignorant all you want, it's a fact. For some things, you just need male aggression/swagger that you can't get from a female.

Now, if the band is a joke band or a publicity stunt, then maybe they'd pick a female lead singer. They wouldn't go anywhere as a band though.
