OK, so I have not had a voip dial tone via rogers since the network went down for an hour on friday. So I went to the rogers help site to see what I can do to try and fix this and I read this:

===================================================

Cannot Place Calls

Problem:

Cannot place calls.

Solution:

Make sure that the telephone power adapter is plugged in to a working outlet.
Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged in firmly to a working telephone jack.
Make sure that the dial mode is set to dial tone (refer to your telephone manual).
For cordless phones:
Make sure that the base antenna is fully upright.
Move the handset closer to the base.
Make sure that the handset is properly charged.
Verify that your Home Phone Terminal is functioning properly by checking the LED patterns.
If none of the above works, please contact Rogers Home Phone support at 1 888 ROGERS1.

So, if you can't place or recieve calls, CALL rogers 1888 number...LOL

Is that not the DUMBEST thing you've ever heard?

Here's the official page lol

It was only a few months ago I had to swap a Rogers modem as they were upgrading our network. I didn't however receive any notice to do so. Got on the phone with Rogers tech support and he told me I could view the details at www.shoprogers.....etc.

I jokingly asked the guy if he was deaf. Apparently, they have manuals that reference them to scripted lines. That was one of em. No huge deal as I got it fixed that day but...... C'mon.

Anyways to your issue? If it still exists. I had that problem as well and did everything I was told to with no result. Finally I just left it unplugged the modem over night and plugged it back in the next morning, and it was working. May be sheer cooincidence but if all else fails....

Good luck.

Rogers is not the only provider with dumb support. My brother's Bell service would not connect, so my sister called 611 for him. Bell says "sorry, the 611 call has to come from the number that's not working".

Welcome to Rogers and the great Rogers Home Phone. For years we all had Bell land lines and your phone worked all the time. But now people would rather pay Rogers the same amount of money for a IP based phone which requires power and functioning internet.
...and if there is a power outage, the backup battery only last a few hours.

...and if you move and don't advise the "911" people of the move yourself, the 911 service if you ever need it will go to your former address ( a kid in Calgary died earlier this year with another service provider).

...and if you don't take the long distance plan along with the service, they will charge you more for not having it versus having it on the account.

Thanks to Rogers great marketing, everyone believes they really need it. Just another reason why I hate this company!
I did it because I rec'd a better deal than through bell but guess what?

I'm going back to bell...this is ridiculous......
