What pisses me off is that when I finally got my new modem from Bell after waiting like 4 yrs for it, they wanted me to return the old modem which is from 2000 othwerise they would continue charging me for it. WTF?

The modem is 7 yrs old, why the heck would they want it back after so long?

Is this the case with Rogers as well?

The new modems are DOCSIS 2.0 compliant. The old ones are not. You'll probably get a Motorola Surfboard 5100 which is one of the best cable modems on the market. One of the reasons they are releasing them is to allow speed upgrades. The older style modems couldn't use the Extreme service.

Rogers changed my modem and PVR FREE of charge. I check my bills with a magnifine glass each month. and no charges on there for a modem

I know with Bell they like to sit in uneeded and unessary fees a lot.

They are moving everyone over to DOCSIS 2.0. If you don't swap out your modem your internet will stop working after the switch over. I don't see what the big deal is the Motorola modems are very good.
