Rogers PVR - expandable memory?

One of the wiz-kids on the Rogers help line mentioned that the Rogers PVR memory could be expanded from 20hrs of HD using an external drive. I hooked one up to the USB port but couldn't find any options to use it.

Does anyone know if it can be done or if the kid was talking out of his ass?

Any idea where to turn on the HDMI on the PVR units? I can't for the life of me find it in the menus.
