My first thought was: "What a crazy bitch!!!.... " After some time to reflect, and without knowing much about her, I would have to say that something is wrong with her.
She might just be a flake, but a flake would just have run off without a word... or just cancelled it last minute... This girl planned her "escape", but really did not think about the consequences. Any person in their right mind would have seen that this plan would only end in disaster.
I have suffered from panic attacks in my younger days. Faced with an extremely stressful situation, you can make some very very stupid decisions that left myself and my parents shaking our heads...
For one of my final papers at University, I thought I aced it... I got my mark back and completely freaked out.... I was ready to go in and beat the shit out of the prof. I went in and demanded that to see how they graded my paper. When I read the paper, it was like I was looking at a someone else's paper. I had to double check that the prof did not give me the wrong worksheet. It was freaky...
For me, this was the eye opener and I learned to cope with it..
Having said that, I really hope that they do lay some charges and require compensation from her for the expenses that were incurred. If there isn't anything wrong with her, then she should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law (First time offender, with a clean record etc... she will get probation).
