So the USA built an illegal base in a sovereign foreign nation. And we're lawfully ordered to leave it.

Unless you support the USA continuing to foster a civil war?

You should be arguing about the Trump backed war in Yemen.
All Trump did in Syria was make a 3am call to Erdogan then abandon US allies then make a grab for Syria's oil.
You really think that's going to lead to peace?

That goes a little beyond the source article. How many other "illegally" occupied bases and places are they intending to leave? And is this 'leaving' done only when they are ordered? By the local authorities? Or by the commander of the incoming helicopter forces?

Your closing comment seemed a similar tad oversimplified: Isn't abandoning a civil war in which you had a role, about the same as fostering it by taking one on? Either way, the US is letting down one side or the other. Unless your point is to speak for the side who wants them gone.

Surely it couldn't be to assert the Americans' only role should be peacekeeping, not warring at all.

The Wa in Yemen started well before Trump was elected. He as to support Saudi Arabia. They've been the basis for the Petrodollar since the 1970's. And the US Economy is a War based economy. If they can't have War and sell Military hardware the economy will tank. Which it is already doing but it will tank even faster.

I’m all for fewer US troops anywhere in the ME, including Syria.
