S-video connection problems?

I have a 4 pin s-video cable and my notebook has the jack for the svideo cable as well as my Toshiba television.

I connected the cable and followed the steps of going into the
Display Properties> Settings
and selecting number 2 to extend my windows desktop but nothing happens.

I have an onboard Intel graphics card.

Could that be the problem?

I tried the video settings on the tv such as Video1, Video2, Video3 and ColourStream but nothing happens.

Am I missing a few steps in between?

Do I need to buy an external piece of hardware or anything?

Anybody know a workaround this or how I could get it to work?

Thanks.

"Selecting number 2 to extend your windows desktop" is if you have a second computer monitor (not a TV) and want to use 2 displays simultaneously. This doesn't enable TV output.
There should be an option (possibly under Display Properties> Settings>Advanced) to enable TV output.
Your notebook's screen refresh rate should also be set to 60 Hz to be compatible with TV standards.
Please note that Svideo cables carry video signals ONLY-- no audio. You'll have to use a seperate cable from your notebook's audio out to the TV's audio input to get sound on the TV.

Also your laptop may have some special keyboard command to turn on S-video output, often the "FN" key plus another key.

I recall that I had to disable the onboard monitor, enable s video, but the quality was so poor I never bothered anymore.
