I am not 100% sure, but sat. internet is only a one way internet. You need a telephone line if you want to chat, send an e-mail or respond to the pervs at TERB.

I have Bell wireless high speed internet and you can do everything anyone esle can and I live in the country. Go to Bell and ask for their wireless box, $99 and take it home set it up in various location in the house looking for the strongest signal, you need at least 3 lights lit up for the best signal and then call Bell to activate. If you don't get a good signal then take the box back and get your money back. I can download movies, music everything. Cost about $75 a month for service.

WOW.... Is that for unlimited time and downloads?

I live up north and since (I think) that bell box is using cell towers for service? $75 a month isn't such a bad deal if it's for unlimited interent service...... I'm being ripped off by Fido at $150 a month for only 15 Gigs. with one of those interent stick thingies. :(

I used to have satelite internet, and it was ok, but wireless is better, if you can get it. Satelite is two way, there is no such thing as one-way internet, even for surfing, you have to send your page requests up. It is a special satelite that sends back also. So not cheap, mine was $2,000 for the dish, plus $200 per month. So far I have spent about $5,000 on the wireless (taller and taller antenae, fancier radios), but it is a lot better.

The problem with satelite internet, is that for you to press a key, and get a response, requires four trips up to the satelite and back (your key up and back, the response up and back), so the response is slow. I found that it was ok for surfing, but useless for Terminal Server, which is what I need.

Satellite internet is the *only* hi-speed option where I live; I'm currently using Xplornet http://www.xplornet.com/ , and (despite a lot of negative reviews) I'm quite happy with their service. Yeah, it's expensive ($1700 install, $175/month) for 2Mpbs service and ping times are brutally slow (1sec+ sometimes), so it's useless for online gaming or Skype. But, for anything else, it's good.

And, if you run a small business, many municiplaties and townships will pay for a portion of the install as an incentive for economic development. I got a $1000 cheque from from the Municipality of Muskoka.
