For the past few weeks this XP update has tried and repeatedly failed to install on my PC. It just sits on the lower right taskbar indicating an update is there, ready to load. Any ideas on how to either install, or get rid of it? Just want to get rid of that MS update yellow icon shield. Not even sure if I need this update, everything has run fine without it.

Checked task manager and it is not listed there.
Followed MS directions and installed a special installer MS said was needed, then tried and this update still won't install.
It just sits next to the clock waiting to install .....but won't.

i have the same issue. been watching that damn think for months. i tried the microsoft directions and did not work either. i am debating just shutting off auto update and then just looking once every week or two.

If not tried already, go to
Control Panel/
Add or Remove Programs/
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
then select
Change/Remove
then select Repair.

It may then be possible to install the security update...or not.
