A friend of mine just told me her dad has kidney disease. 30% function left. He’s up there.

She wants her brother to get his license to drive dad places. He is loser on ODSP with a massive substance abuse problem. Pills and alcohol. He will kill somebody with a license.

What Gov’t program would be able to take my friends dad to his appts? There has to be something.

Not sure what city you are in but In Toronto it's called Wheel Trans, In Peel it's called TransHelp.

You have to fill out some forms and get his doctor to sign off.
Thank you. Her dad is in Welland I believe

Got a buddy in Peel with a bad foot from diabetes complications.
Not good nerve feedback in feet, so no drivers license any more. High functioning alcoholic, so no license is a plus here.

Just out of 6 weeks in hospital and complex care after the hospital.

Now gets Transhelp for door to door mini bus trips he must app schedule in advance after doctor says cant do regular bus.
And gets taxi vouchers so a cab ride is 40% off and Transhelp pays the taxi the rest to the full fare for trips he cannot book or they are to busy to provide the ride.

I don't think your friend understands CKD.
There are no symptoms, no cure, and the only mitigation is lifestyle change. I have had it for 10 years and I see a specialist every 6 months where they take my weight, and blood pressure and 4 vials of blood. Once your friends father's count drops below 25 he will need dialysis and at 15 a kidney transplant. Mine through diet change has not dropped below 35 from a starting point of 41 in the 10 years.
