Serious question: Anyone use hypnosis to change things about themselves?

Hey y'all.

There's a few things about myself that I don't like and just cannot seem to be able to change. I won't get into specifics, nothing outrageous, just bad habits that I lack the discipline to fix on my own.

I've heard of hypnosis helping people to correct this sort of thing but was wondering if any of you had any personal experience that you could share either here or via pm.

Thanks.

Hypnosis can work but you really have to make an effort on your own to change, the hypnosis will strengthen your resolve...but if you make no effort to change the hypnosis won't magically do it for you. I will send you a pm with my personal experiences when I have a bit more time.

Interesting thread. I am a curious person (hence the handle) and as such wanted to know all about hypnotherapy. As such, I took a course lead by the leading school/instructer in Canada and became a certified hypnotherapist. I did not choose this as a career path but to immerse myself in the teachings. Basically hypnotherapy taps into your sub-concious and by doing this helps control your thoughts/emotions on a concious level. Basically all of our consious decisions are derived from the sub-concious level. A good example of how this works in every day life is this: If you tell yourself you cant get laid by civvy ladies you probably wont. You have already told yourself that you are incompetant to some level. By changing your thinking (which hypnosis is designed to do) you start telling yourself the opposite and it becomes the new reality. So to answer the question hypnosis definitely works but the patient has to be open and willing to change.

A dentistry student friend of mine at Univ took an offered hypnosis course ("Your lower jaw is going to sleep") and he turned out to be a rock star. I saw him do the needle-through-hand-with-no-pain routine, and the body-goes-stiff-as-a-board routine. I asked him to "put me under", but couldn't do it -- but I knew lotsa guys who had him hypnotize them to make them study harder for exams, and I know for a fact that they did so, at least for a day or two -- but then back down the pub of course.

I've used hypnotism and visualization techniques in the past. I had much success actually... but I'm convinced that is 100% due to the fact that I chose the right practitioner. He was someone who had a history with the same sort of issues I was struggling with. I visited weekly for a while, then reduced the frequency of visits as I learned to do the visualization myself. I still do it every now and then.

I left sessions there in a variety of states ... once I "woke up" in tears, once laughing. It was an incredibly interesting journey of self exploration. If you can find a practitioner that 'fits' you I highly recommend it. Good luck!
Hi Jessica, can you please PM me the name of the therapist (or anyone else you can recommend)?

Thanks in advance....btw, your inbox is currently full.

I love this Tony Robbins. I always watch his videos, my opinion is on of the best motivational speaker.
got me

I have listened to hours of his tapes and there was nothing there except talk

I wrote down the five points that he actually made and disagreed with all of them except his policy on setting specific goals
and using a diary

his fire walk is an illusion that was created by someone else and fools you into believing you accomplished something that you did not (unsure as to whether this is good or bad)

his prices are crazy

Diamond Premiere Admission: $2,595

but you are right he is a good talker and he acts extremely self confident and his excitement, and especially the excitement of the crowd , must rub off and infect you if you want to believe

but so do all the great cult leader inspire followers in the same way

nothing unusual at all in Robbins that I can see except the scale at which he works and his world class marketing team

he has done seminars with Deepak Chopra FFS! (Manifest your desires by wishing them between the gaps of your thoughts guy. It is utterly scary that intelligent people believe this Chopra nutbar)

I am always willing to listen and learn from others so if you would be so kind as to tell me

WTF has he done for you?

Cheers

PS please be specific in how he helped you and how he did it (I get the feeling it is only his excitement and self confidence that infects and motivates people - not that this is bad )

No need to use "WTF" ...i was just speaking my mind.
But to answer your question, he motivated me to do take control of my life and do something about it instead of procrastinating and complaining.
I learned to focus on important stuff instead of wasting my time on things and people that dont matter.
Yes he only talks but that's what he does, he's a motivational speaker not God. What you chose to take and learn from him that's your choice.
Overall he haves a great energy and makes me go, especially when i listen to him in the morning.

that he makes you stop procrastinating is good but a marine drill Sargent would do a better job of it

WTF is meant to be just a fun phrase (listen to robbins swear in this seminar )

the first thing he does is disclaim he is a motivational speaker

he says he tries to help you learn what motivates you by helping you understand your emotions (I think)

he also brags he has done ( unverified ) great humanitarian deeds (which is what a scammer would do)

I remain skeptical but open minded

the human mind is weak and easily controlled by others

I found Tony Robbins books very useful. It's not a panacea, but I got more from his two books (which cost me $30) than I did from dozens of $130/hour sessions with psychologists. The psychologists had all the university diplomas but didn't accomplish anything other than emptying my wallet. Mr Robbins didn't have the credentials but his methods helped me. I personally believe that the so-called "neuro-linguistic-programming" and some of his diet ideas are bunk, but the power of positive thinking, the practice of modelling success and some of his other ideas have benefited me greatly.

could you be more specific in how he helped

this is how I feel about it

1 to be a positive thinker go and do something you are successful at

do not sit around thinking about it while listening to someone tell you to be positive

2 modeling your behaviour after someone who has more talent than you would end in failure and Robbins foolishly suggests you model after the best

IE Do not emulate Gretzky as he is a natural and you are not

emulate the grinders who made it to the NHL for it is their insight and training program you will benefit from

Look, just because you are the best does not make you an expert at teaching others how to achieve success
better learning from those who failed for they will tell you what not to do

3 his fire walk is an illusion
overcoming fear of an illusion is nonsense

4 he admires nutbar Deepak Chopra who is delusional in his extremely crazy beliefs

5 although he has succeeded greatly as a speaker (to his credit) the only thing he every accomplished is getting filthy rich telling other people how to accomplish something while bragging he has helped many thousands of needy while offering no proof then charging many $$$$$ from people who cannot afford it to attend his seminars vainly hoping for the miracle of living like some peter popoff evangelist taking money from the sick and desperate. He brags of literally saving many lives with his strength and core beliefs (again no verification) and he brags of running multiple corporations (anyone can set up multiple corporations then make same brag)

6 oh yeah, he also brags about being a relationship and self esteem guru yet his wife left him after getting implants

I guess his philosophy must be if you tell the truth about how great you are you are not bragging

cheers

Forget all that hefty fees you need to pay to get 'hyptonized' .. Its similar to concentrating on something long enough. Try writing out what you want to do/achieve/change and that concentration will work like hypnosis and be enough to get you to change. :)

they hypnotize you into giving them your bank account numbers and forcing women into sex, then hypnotize you into forgetting they did those illegal things, and if you go for hypnosis you will be raped and stolen from.
