So we save for education, eyes, teeth, etc. things not covered by OHIP or benefits. We save for their rep
Hockey and stuff.

Should we be making kids a therapy fund? This would maybe apply more state-side then in Canada. We have a somewhat good system here in Ontario. It is just sometimes hard to access and/or get different services to be talking to each other.

Apparently, a few celebs seem to have them for their kids. Just money put aside for anytime the kids needs or wants therapy. It is there.

Is this the new direction of parenting? I’m not Having more kids. Only grandkids far far far down the road but I am big on mental health and once this was said, I wondered why I had never heard or thought about it before. Am I alone here?

Not a bad idea tbh. OHIP funded medical psychiatric care is so difficult to access, with wait lists so long that it is basically useless for a kid having problems that are impacting their school / social development. Counselling, clinical psychologist care can run $1-200/ hr, but can be really effective for kids/ teens with anxiety/ depression issues.

How about we spend that money now to give our kids a happy upbringing so they don't need therapy down the road.

Keep up with the fear mongering . It impacts your kids more then you realise .
Where did I say anything about COVID? I wasn’t even thinking it and neither were the two poster before you.

If I wanted to talk COVID, I would have put it in that forum. Keep this on topic and not about COVID.

Covid is causing mental health issues . The link above shows that . Ignoring it will not make it go away . This is just a tip of the ice burg for mental health for all ages .

BTW I never said you mentioned covid .

I am not trying to have a discussion about anything COVID related. I’m talking regular old therapy for regular old problems. Can we keep it to that please?

Not everything has to be brought back to COVID. I said I didn’t say it for a reason. Because I don’t want to talk about COVID. If I wanted to talk about COVID related mental health, I would have put it in the COVID forum.

Not mentioning covid with mental health . Is like ignoring lung, breast and colorectal cancer when talking about cancer . Just because you don't want to discuss it . Does not mean it is not part of the big picture . Have a great day .

It depends if you think you have a problem of this with you personally and in your family and see early signs.

but parents can also accelerate their kids issues if they start victimizing them and labeling them with conditions at an early age.

I would keep trying over and over until I notice it’s beyond effort like they start hurting themselves, or others animals or are causing a lot of trouble in schools.

Kids can easily be conditioned by their surroundings especially pears, social media and parents if their parents are not careful how they deal with this which could cause them to quickly spiral downward.

Some company out there must have a stellar medical plan for therapy down the road at the low low cost to add onto one’s private health insurance?
If there is money to be made. Someone will have figured it out.

And yet People around the world have been able to stick to one discussion about one specific type of cancer without needing to bring all of them up. There’s been plenty of those singular style conversations. That is all I’m trying to do here, to continue with that …..

You would think so but many don’t and most plans are capped.

Psychiatrists are pill doctors. They don't do therapy; they just prescribe medications intended to stabilize someone's mental health state.

When I was a kid, psychiatrists gave advice, and it only cost a nickel:

Some psychiatrists do psychotherapy, but you are right, many are moving to a more medical model of practice.

Why stop at their mental health?

Why not set up a fund to pay for their first car, their clothes, their groceries, their house and maintenance, their dog or cat, their sexual needs, their funeral?
