oil of peppermint NOT crappy extract, this one you get from the heallth food places. Put it where you are seeing htem and you won't see them anymore. It's ant season in my home too! I also grow spearmint and rub the leaves around the exterior of my house between the wall and ground and that stops new ones entering,,,,I heard this also works for termites...

Killing the worker ants off will have little or no effect. You want to kill the queen. You can buy ant poison that they will carry back to their nest and feed to other ants, that's basically what you want. Try and trace them back to the source by watching where they are coming from and put the poison as close to their nest as you can so they can cart lots of it home.

If you can't bring yourself to poison them, try using a magnifying glass and concentrate sunshine on them.

Spray the crap out of the house

but you might want to secure the food and head out for the weekend

To actually solve your ant problem you need to find where they are coming from. It's not likely they are living in or under the house (unless you don't have a foundation in which case you have worse problems)< so you need to spend some time outside looking for where they get in and where they lead off to......then you need to nuke the nest when you do find it.

Kill the queen. It's the only way to be sure. ;)
