Does a man have the right to slap a woman back? Assuming he doesn't knock her to the moon.
If not, why not?

If he is being an asshole and deserves it, then no.

If he is doing nothing wrong and she is being a despicable c#nt, then absolutely.

I don't think I could do it but I have no problem if some bitch gets back what she dishes out, within reason. :D

This is a difficult one for me. At one time I would have said that a man never strikes a woman, period. To this date I have never done so.

Years ago my then girlfriend and I were in a heated argument. She slapped me hard and temorairily damaged my eye. It never occured to me that she would do this and so I wasn't expecting it at all. The argument ended because I was now in a rage and walked away.

By dint of my gender and size, 6'5" 220lbs, I do not hit women nor do I threaten to. I am a gentleman and my GF knew I would not hit her. When she slapped me, I was shocked at how much this breach of trust affected me. The indignation I felt was tremendous.

I keep up my end of being a gentleman by not introducing violence. If a woman slapped me now however, I'm not so sure I would suffer that again without retaliation. When I watch the video I side with the guy slapping her back. Before I would not have.

As written here and the other thread it depends on the circumstances.
Why did she slap?
Did he have it coming, etc?
If he did not have it coming then I would suggest that there will be consequences for her actions.
That is not to say I would slap any woman for any reason.
If someone understands there will be consequences to their actions they usually think twice.
If they slap regardless then appropriate action is justified. I would not lower myself to returning the slap but it would not be allowed to slide.
I would have to be in the situation to answer what the consequences would be.
If the woman never slaps then we will never have to know if the guy would slap back.
I have seen it happen in the past where a woman chooses to strike a man because she knows he will not slap her back. Perhaps it is best she never slap at all.

Read King21's comment. I also agree, as was raised to never ever hit, touch a woman etc...

Once a spit comes my way all is fair game.

I am the only yes vote.
Oh no.

'You have the right but it is not right
I was not raised that way
I have never done it
Now you are tough ?
If he is an asshole.'

Is it 2009 or 1909 ?

I slapped a woman after she slapped me. Apparently I pissed her off and she mistakenly thought she had carte blanche to do whatever she wanted. I almost got into a fight with several guys watching who did not think much of my action. She and they thought they knew the law and they were 'holding' me there until the cops showed. I know the law and it was not difficult for them to hold me until LE.
Long story short, I knew these idiots would tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
After LE explained that she would be arrested if she did not agree to let it go, she accepted and left in a huff.
She was the firend of a friend.

What is the law in Canada?? Is it legal to slap a woman if she hits you first??

Can't answer the poll... there are no absolute yes/no answers to this question..

No one should strike another in anger, regardless of their sexual persuasion. Much like name-calling or verbal insults... physical violence is just another way of saying you lost the debate.

Would I condemn a man for striking a woman after she struck him? Possibly, it all depends on the circumstances. Is he much bigger/smaller than her, did he provoke her initial blow? Did he match her blow or hit back much harder?...... You see my point - you cannot just say yes/no to the question without an extensive knowledge of the situation.

The society I live in has taught us that it is morally wrong for a man to strike a woman. But in one of humanity's lovely double standards they haven't taught us that the reverse is also true.... although that is changing with the 0 tolerance policies in schools.... so by the time the next generation gets to hold the reins things may have changed in that regard.

First person to swing is guilty of assault, retaliation not likely to get you charged unless you overdo it IMO.

However you better have witnesses as the cops will almost invariably take her side at the start. (That moral upbringing of "thou shalt not hit a woman" rising to the top again)

The first hit is assault 'in law'. The retaliation depends on how quick and what the opponent is doing immediately after the first shot. If he/she is standing over you able/within reach to do it again you are allowed to protect yourself.
If the other party walks away(retreats in other words) you cannot pursue just to get even.
Now at this point, is the attack actually over or is the opponent going to get a weapon ? This takes us in a whole different direction.
I do not know much about lethal force laws.

In general you can only use deadly force to defend against deadly force,
further you can only use deadly force to protect life not merely property.

One exception in some jurisdictions is your home.

*remember these are general points of law, not the the actual law in a particular jurisdiction.

Years ago I detained a female shoplifter at work. So here I am with a couple of mall guards waiting for police to arrive. This bitch is just giving attitude and she decides to spit at me, I was able to duck away from most of it, it only hit part of my hair. I lunged at her to smack her real hard(spitting at someone is assault), but one of the guards was able to pull me back in time, hand only caught air. This is when it is justified to hit someone, let alone a woman.
If the man had any semblamce of strength would you have lunged at him? I think the answer is pretty obvious, pussy.

From the "readers questions" section of a dog magazine I read years ago in the U.S.:

Q: Lucy (my schnauzer puppy) has a bad habit...she comes over and nips
my shoe when I come home. When guest come over she does this to their
feet/shoes as well. Once a friend has a nasty bruise on her foot as a result
of a hard nip. How do I train her not to do this? Should I gently smack her
when she nips? Saying "Bad!!!" doesn't work.

A: The best thing to do if your bitch gets aggressive is not to smack her,
but rather have a spray bottle of water handy and spray her with a mist
of water right after the act of aggression. They do not like to get their
hair wet and find directed mist paticularly undesirable and will recoil after
being sprayed. Soon they will learn that agression is unacceptable. :D

OK, if a woman is trying to cause you death or serious injury with a tire iron, that is one thing...and I would not do nothing and let her kill me. If she is pissed off at you and just girl slaps you, I say do nothing and just walk away in disgust. If she is in a frenzy slapping away at you repeatedly, a hard shove away from you might be in order, followed by walking away.

I saw a public incident outside Biff's Bistro on Front St a couple of years ago. I and friends had a window table and a man and woman in thier early 40's get into it outside. They were gf/bf or husband/wife I guess. It was winter. He is walking along Front St and she meets him coming from the opposite direction (maybe he was seeing an SP and the g/f found out - something he did prior to this meet set her off). So she starts yelling at him (I can't hear exactly what she is saying). He tries to walk past and ignore her, but she is in his face yelling. He says a few words, remaining calm, but she is not be be talked down. She then girls slaps him on the cheek. He is annoyed at this, and once agian tries to walk past her. She blocks his path and again girl slaps him. By now everybody in the restaurant is watching. He then decides to turn around and walk bacj the way he came. She grabs the arm of his coat and holds on to prevent his leaving/escape and contines yelling at him (turning red in the face). He is tugging away, and finally undoes his coat and wiggles out of it and walks away wearing just his business suit (it was -10C out) leaving her holding onto his winter coat yelling after him. She did not pursure him down the street. he walked away at a good pace. She stood there with the coat in her hand for a minute, then turned around and walked off the way she had come (taking the coat with her). People in the restaurant at other tables were joking saying "Must have been caught banging his secretary, etc". Soem women were saying (during the slapping) "I wonder if he'll hit her back?" so I guess a lot of people of both genders wonder what a guy will do if the woman girl slaps him (not for a lewd pick up line lol, but in an argument). I agree he was right to walk away.

We all have female friends...

This has happened before to me.Walk away.Relay the discussion to a female friend(Butchy one if possible)and she'll deal with it.Sweet talk her.....make her think she's defending your honour or something lolo.It cost me a dinner but oh my..my oh my .I would suspect the bitch that slapped me thought twice about slapping a guy again.Plus.i got to watch;).

The gentleman from the earlier thread is right. You so much as shove her...your the one going to jail.I've seen it happen.
